[Inactive] Malware and possible virus

Recently my wife asked me to search for something. A link came up with the same title that I was searching for, when I clicked it it automatically downloaded a windows Defender program and some other things. I am not sure what kind of infection it is. It does occasionally redirect me to google. It also prevents my IP address from renewing and doesnt allow me to access the internet. my internet explorer bar is blacked out. Also, when I do an internet search. if I click on a link it redirects me to other sites instead of the link that I am trying to go to. I sometimes get a popup for a free survey. I tried removing it with both spy sweeper with antivirus and superspy sweeper 4 and I still seem to have the issues. though occasionally I am able to access the internet. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!
