Macromedia won't work...

jd0427--Coming very late to the party, but do your IE Tools|Security settings permit ActiveX controls to run? The Macromedia programs need ActiveX to run--just like Adobe Reader and MS Windows Update.
Of course, this is an all or nothing affair. If you are able to run Macromedia programs some of the time, that suggests the problem is elsewhere (assuming you are using only Internet Zone in all cases and not Trusted Zone some of the time).

I do use the internet zone. I can get the software to run sometimes, but then it quits or is gone when I reboot. Very frustrating. I'm trying the Firefox thing right now (in the middle of downloading and adding the Java/Macromedia stuff). Keeping my fingers crossed.

Downloaded all, and everything seems to be working fine on Firefox. Mom is VERY happy. I'll give it the weekend to see if the same problems arise. I'll let you know on Monday.
