    1) You are correct - I have do have the latest driver.

    2) My Windows sounds cannot be played there because the play button (arrow) is greyed out.

    3) This was a good idea - I hadn't tried it before. Tried it just now and it didn't do the trick, unfortunately....

    Thanks anyway!
    Randy

Click Start< Run and type services.msc and hit enter. When the Services window opens scroll down and make sure the Windows Audio Service is Started and set to Automatic.

Then dowlonad and install the latest Realtek Audio driver from here, Realtek HD Audio Driver. In the download list pick the Windows 2000, Windows XP/2003(32/64 bits) Driver only (Executable file) entry.

After the driver installs, reboot the computer and let me know if there is any change.

    Hi Evan,

I had tried both of these things before and they made no difference. I went ahead and tried them again, and the result was the same: no change.

Please remember - I do have audio, but no audio when on a web page that has both audio and video on it. Still no Windows sounds - In the Windows sounds tab on my audio device, the little play button is still greyed out.

Thanks once again for trying to help me! I do appreciate it.... :)

If you or any other staff want to close this thread, I wouldn't be offended. We've tried so many things but there just doesn't seem to be a fix for this crazy problem. It seems to me that the web video aspect would have something to do with Flash, but using any version of Flash hasn't helped. As for Windows sounds, I am stumped there too. Maybe chalk it up to some freaky Win XP issue? Or this old computer?

    Take care,
    Randy

Well I am honestly out of ideas at this point. The only other thing I can suggest is to Perform a Repair Install of Windows XP but if you don't want to go down that route then I understand.

Barring that, you might want to contact a local computer technician to look at the computer physically and see if they can determine if you have some other compatibility problems going on.

Thanks, Evan, for your reply and final suggestions.

I think I will just wait until the time is right for me to buy a new computer, with Windows 10 as the OS. Well, either that or a Mac... ;)

Thanks for all you do, and take care,
    Randy

Not a problem. Do you want to mark this thread as resolved with your reason being that you will end up buying a new computer down the road? You should consider moving off of Windows XP anyway as its not secure anymore and is getting more vulnerable to malware infections by the day.

    Evan,

Yes, that sounds good to me. Please consider this thread to be resolved because I will end up buying a new computer down the road.

Thanks again (and thanks also to TonyT and anyone else whom I may have missed) for trying to help me. I appreciate you guys and this forum - and if I should have any issues with a new computer, I will be back to post once again!

    Randy :)
