    I would also like to see what all copies of xpsp2res.dll you have, so please do the following as well. Highlight and copy the contents of the quote box below to a blank notepad. Save it to the desktop as;

    Filename: check.bat
Save as type: All Files (*.*)

Double click check.bat to run it. It will open check.txt when it completes. Please post it's contents.

Replace the one in system32 with the following and reboot.

Try replacing the one in the dllcache folder with the one I noted, then rename the one in system32 and reboot.

It's the one in System32 that I don't have access to.

I knew that ...... see if it will allow you to rename it. Often times you can rename a file (a system file) that's in use and it will be replaced by Windows File protection with a copy from the dllcache

I'll be away for a few hours. See what happens when booting while the cd-rom is disconnected and get me that bootlog, if so inclined.

I am doing as you said but I just want to point back that I could put the v5.1.2600.2653 that I replaced instead of the 5.1.2600.2180.

Did it and problem still exists. But a new problem has arisen. Some windows, for example Device Manager, has corrupted text.

When did you notice the corrupted dialogs?

Check for updates to your video card drivers.

Run a chkdsk /r with only the operating system drive enabled.

And I believe the problem will continue to exist until someone can figure why the Bootup porcess is even looking to G: ( which if I understand correctly is a CDROM and makes no difference whether it is connected or not ) TWICE in the first place.

    Then switching back to C:

    VERY time consuming.

The slow boot delay problem has nothing to do with stuff running AFTER Windows finally goes get loaded. That part appears to be OK. ( so far )

    HUH OH!!!

Also I believe I saw in a few posts back about Wordpad not starting properly.

Virus cleanup could have something to do with this too.

I think you need to stop wating time and do a clean reinstall of Windows. And make sure it goes to C:\Windows.

If it were not for the fact of so many instances of switching from G: to C: and back I would suggest a Cold boot to a Floppy and an over top reinstall.
But now I would no longer recomemmnd that.

    My bed is calling me
    Goodnight.

Did you enable boot logging while drives were disabled? I'd like to see the ntntlog.

If nothing available re: video drivers, is the corruption still present after re-enabling all drives and rebooting?

Corruption is still there after enabling all the drives.
