I recently blew my friends motherboard after installing extra RAM into it - ive replaced the board, and it found the already installed XP, everything worked ok except the net connection. It tried to connect but seemed to hang on Assigning an IP - Limited or No Connectivity. Checked the usual suspects: IP/TCP stack, winsock and winsock 2 errors - repaired these.

I've now reinstaled XP after formatting the HD - everything is A1, super fast except I get the same problem with Limited or No Connectivity. I use a BT Home Hub, it works because im using the Laptop on a wireless connection, ive also connected the laptop up via ethernet cable (same one that PC is connected to) and its ok - Still no internet, can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I am going wrong, i'm pulling my hair out now

Most probably seems like a driver problem with network card.

Did you install the network card driver from cd or did Win XP picked it automatically?

Did you install the chipset drivers for the motherboard after reformatting and installing XP?

@rsinfo - onboard network card was picked up automatically, as was the one I purchased as I thought the onboard was no good - ive also deleted the network card that I installed, rebooted and installed the drivers off the CD.

@PeteC - When I installed the motherboard, I went thru the setup book as I was supposed to and installed everything ( I think ) that it suggested:

    Chipset Driver
    Lan Driver
    cant remember the next one

The PC works A1 - its faster than it has ever been, I just cant access the net

    Cheers

Try powering off the network modem for 30 seconds then power up to refresh IP.

At a command prompt (Start > Run type cmd press OK) can you enter this command:
    Code:
    ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt
This will create a new file called ipconfig.txt. Post the contents of the file to this thread.

    Yea, looks broken:

    Try running this command:

    Code:
    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Looks as though the machine is trying to default to using the IPv6 protocol and IPv6 Teredo. Your hub might not support Teredo. Lets see what happens if we disable it.

Open a command window and type each of the following lines, hitting Enter after each.

    netsh int ipv6 reset
netsh int ipv6 6to4 set state disabled disabled
netsh int ipv6 set teredo disable
netsh int ipv6 isatap set state disabled

Now restart the computer and see if it connects. Do another ipconfig /all >ipconfig.txt and post it as well.

Another thing I noticed in the event log section of the logs posted was the following message. Please note the bolded part.

The server could not bind to the transport \Device\NwlnkNb because another computer on the network has the same name. The server could not start.

Do you have two computers with the same name?

The desktop is connected to the net thru a BT homehub and ethernet cable, I am currently typing this on the laptop that is running wirelessly through the same hub - i'll go and do what you have requested first and come back toyou in 5

    Cheers,
