im on my second pair of speakers while they didnt work anywhere on the computer they did work with a portable cd player! the first pair of speakers worked spurts, play a while quit they are trashed try them later.
then i said they didnt work on headphone/or speakers i changed the speaker advance im sorry i left that part out.

both of pairs of speakers show lights as powered
im beginning to think that my computer hates speakers i tried the back under that little black cover, didnt work there either.

so what am listening to by using the front headphone connection? do you have any idea and how long will i be able to use it? i

i dont care if it doesnt have speakers or i have to wear headphones to hear my music and my audio books. as long as i can have the sound

i have tried 3 sets of speakers, none of which work on the computer but every one of them work on portable cd players, listening to one now. dont understand it at all.
i even update my directx,i did not that i had to update it myself. i had ver 5.0 but now i got verson 9.0 but the computer still will not let the speakers play.
what would happen if i plugged the mini speakers in the back? cant do the headphones, the cord is too short. what do you think? the mini speakers are the kind that you do not have to plug into an electricial socket.

Yes, please try the mini speakers.

So I can be completely clear on what is going on please answer these question by number. Before this, make sure both speaker and headphone connections are active in the audio settings, speakers to back connection, headphones to the front.

    1. Plug your main/mini speakers into the back connection on the PC without the headphones plugged into the front and check these settings:

Click or double-click the speaker icon in the lower-right corner of your screen. Ensure that the volume is turned up and that the sound is not muted. (if you have a volume control on the speaker box make sure it is turned up). Play something, CD or an audio file, is there any sound from the speakers Y/N.

2.Now plug the headphones into the front connection do they work Y/N.

    3. If your answer to 1. is Yes, does plugging in the headphones cut off the sound to the speakers Y/N

Have a look in device manager, click on the + next to "Sound, Video & Game Controllers and tell me what is listed as "Audio Device" it will be "High Definition" or "Realtek" or some other name.

    Ok, lets try this.

Go in to Device Manager and find the sound card (Creative SSB Audigy) right click on it and select properties from the drop down list. In properties click the drivers tab and then slect uninstall.

Now go here and download the driver:

    http://download.cnet.com/Creative-S...ows-98SE-Me-2000-XP/3000-2120_4-10198811.html

Save it in a place you can easily locate. Then go back into Device Manager to the place where you uninstalled the driver and select "Update Driver ", follow the prompts to locate the new driver and install it.

Reboot the PC and test the system.

If there is still no sound from the back speaker output try the headphones in the same connection and see if they work. You said earlier the chord would not reach but please try this to prove if there is any output.
