    All,

Thank you all for your tips and suggestions. Yes...heat was a thought that crossed my mind as a potential issue, especially for causing the random hard boot power offs. That and the fact that the side vents on the laptop were quite hot too, something my uncle noticed as well.

I do agree a good teardown and cleaning would help. I'm well versed on PC's, as I built/repaired/upgraded them for nearly a decade back in the 90's. Teardown of laptops I've done very few of.

When I mentioned this to my uncle, he advised me that he may potentially be getting a 2-year old laptop from a friend of his son's. He won't know until the weekend. So I'm going to hold off on getting my hands all muddy with his existing laptop and see what might happen as far as getting that newer laptop. I'll keep you all informed soon.

    Thank you again.

Thanks, as far as me suggesting anything else...... it would be futile until the machine is properly cleaned..... :)

This past weekend, my uncle ended up getting a fairly new Windows 8 Samsung RF711 laptop from a good friend of his son's. It's a much improved laptop compared to the one he was having issues with.

With that said, I do appreciate everyone's efforts in helping me out. Your contributions, comments, suggestions and advice were all much appreciated, and I thank you all for your help.
