    Hi

While trying to copy photos from SIM card to my compluter using a USB Memory Card Reader, I keep getting a Windows Explorer error stating that Explorer has encountered an error and must shut down.

The monitor flickers and I lose some of the icons in my tray but I am still in Windows. When I restart, I get everyting back but the error keeps repeating.

Can anyone tell me what the problem might be of where I can seek help?

    TIA!

    Happy Fourth of July!!!!

Please post in the correct forum - Windows XP from your System Specs. Moved to that forum.

I did not find anything relating to USB port, memory card readers and Sim cards.

    Anything else I can try?

This is how you should go about troubleshooting this (as I wrote in the article):

I do not know how to sort the non-Microsoft extensions, but there were several non-Microsoft extensions highlighted and I disabled those. Unfortunately, I still get the Explorer error.

Can you tell me what else I can do? TIA.

Should I re-enable the extensions first?

hawk22 - Thanks for your input, however, I can make no sense out of the page you so kindly linked me to. Sorry.

I still am experiencing the Explorer error after broni helped me clean my machine. [:(]

On the chance that someone else can benefit from my experience, I am posting an update. I checked the error in Event Manager and found reference to "faulting module avisplitter.ax ". A google search led me to another forum where someone had the same problem and was able to solve the problem by downloading codecs. The information on that site helped me solve the problem by removing the .avi files into a new folder. Now as I work on the folder with the photos I no longer get the error.

I have not yet installed any codecs.

    Thanks for the reminder, Pete.

Actually I was hoping someone could help me regarding the codecs. Where is a safe place to get them? Does any codec work on XP?

Hi Ann. If you mean media codecs then one of the best and free codec packs that I use is the K-Lite Codec Pack.

The K-Lite codec pack will allow your computer to be able to play any audio and video file type using Windows Media Player. I've been using it for many years on Windows XP, Vista, 7 and I've had no problems.

Thank you for the links, Evan Omo and rsinfo. I will download and install after I make an Image. Hopefully, this will get rid of the error once and for all.
