FWIW I just rebooted and sure enough, the registry entries for IE are back and also the IE entry in the file types. Windows must think it's pretty important. :)

    Zander--
    Hard to disagree with that!!
I kinda like it that IE permits the different icons. Maybe it is Irfanview that thinks itself important.
P.S. Of course Irfanview permits me to open all these image files in IV (File|Open|Open) even though I (seem to) have IE set up as the default opening program, in other words when I just click on a .jpg/etc file.

    You must be right here.

    Zander
    Very same thing here.

I'm not complaing about anything. All file associations work fine, as I want them to....I was just curious.

I've been on this roundabout before.
Displaying the .jpg files as a thumnail icon of themselves has,
in my humble view, nothing to do with Irfan View, IE Explorere
or any graphical viewer's file associations.
Zander's 9th icon in iexplorer.exe is just any old icon.
You will need to buy a third party SW to do it - like Hamrick's
VuePro, as I mentioned in an earlier post.
    regards
