Is there a (ferr) upload site that is dependable i.e., will
not sell your e-mail address and will allow others to download files posted by you?

I'm having a problem with a file (.wav) and someone has
agreed to take a look at it for me.

I only need to do this once for a single file, so not really
crazy about providing my e-mail address and other info.

    thanks,
    savagcl

Can't you just email the file to that someone?

If he/she has a problem recieving (eg size) then I'll happily host it on my ftp/web server for a few days, you can email it to me (chuckawa AT blueyonder.co.uk) as long as it's less than 20Mb.

If you do let me know (by replying here), this mailbox is only checked for expected mail and is normally flushed without reading contents. I'll PM you the url for the file if you decide to do this.

EDIT: You could always create a temporary email address from one of the free email providers out there for registration purposes. In effect this is what my chuckawa (slang for throw away) address is used for.

The wav file is 178MB in size but thanks for the offer, i
    appreciate it.

Dont think they want to pass out their e-mail address
    any more than i do.

I'll check if creative even has private msgs.

Meanwhile, i'll check out the skydrive.

    Thanks for the feedback guys,
    savagcl

I'd be happy to give you a subdomain on my domain for temporary use, Clif. Or I can create a protected ftp directory that you could upload to (I'd PM you the required credentials). You could then pass the credentials along for download. Either way, once done I can simply delete it.

    noahdfear,

    Would appreciate that very much.

Like i said its a 178 MB file if thats to much let me know.

I would figure a week at most would be the max time. If
they didnt look by then, delete it. Of course, if you can tell
when its been looked at (downloaded) by Meocene then it
    can be deleted right away.

So what do i need to do to get it uploaded?

    thanks a bunch,
    savagcl

Both parties need an FTP client. CoreFTP LE is a free client that will work fine if you don't already have one. Once you have it installed I will PM you details for use. Size and length of time is of no concern. Just let me know when they've recieved it.

It doesn't have to be that FTP client, but an FTP client is required. A file that size would be best downloaded via client anyway.

Unless ........ I can create a subdomain for you instead and they can download via a link provided, no FTP client required for them. You will need it regardless.

    Understand,noahdfear.

Before you go to any trouble, someone on comcast said i could use ftp to upload a large to my webpage if i had the
    free space.

    Let me try that first.

OK, I got the file uploaded via comcast/windows explorer.
Kind of an end-run. But it worked. The file is there and the
    size is right.

Bad luck, tho, the link that i mailed to myself didnt work.
This something i'll check within comcast.

For those who want to try - heres the link.

    http://home.comcast.net/~savagcl1/wav/TakeAChance.wav

Would be interested to see if someone here can get
the file downloaded and try to play it.
    For info:
    It's a 24 bit wave file set for multi-channel (5.1
speakers but will play in 2 speakers also), 44.1 KHz,
    file size is 179.22MB.

I'll have read up about ftp some more (lots more) :)

Thanks for all the offers and help!
    savagcl

PS: I may not be out and clear yet....

    Hi Clif,

What problems are you having with the file. It's playing on my laptop but I have to admit it's only stereo and the speakers (plus my ears) aren't the greatest.

Downloaded and played fine for me too. My speakers are nothing to write home about either, but I didn't hear anything wrong with the sound quality.

    Darn strange!

Did were you able to save the file then play it?
Did it auto default to quicktime?

    What player did you use?

Just got a email from someone at comcast, he (she?) said it
sounded horrible. I dont have any specifics from him yet.

At least i know the link works so i can post it to the
creative forum and hopefully get to the root cause of
    my sound card........

    Appreciate the feedback,
    savagcl

I saved it as well (right click>Save Target As) and opened it with Media Player since that is the default player for wav files on my system.

What sort of problem are you having? Is it with all wav files? Is it with all players?

This all started with a new PC (FX6710-01) and a
new sound card (creative XtremeGamer). Believe it or not,
It was the only sound card left in the store after x-mas.

Anyway, I have dbPoweramp for conversion of file types -
wav, mp3, etc. I use dbP mostly for all audio functions
    except playback.

Creative software also has conversion routines (minimal options tho) built in. Nowhere near the quality of dbP.

The problem is with the creative player -
Previous PC with Audigy sound card, creative player (or
winamp or media player classic) and 24 bit, 5.1
    speakers sounded fantastic.

New PC, new sound card, updated creative player and
output wav file from previous setup says "Unable to recognize the format of this file ".

    If i re-convert the file using mp3-to-wav or wav-to-wav,
then the file will play in creative but sounds like garbage.
and the newly created files will make winamp give an
error code 11, "an invalid parameter has been passed to
a system function" (think i have this one nailed down.

I'm trying to convince creative (along with lots of other
people) to fix their drivers/software to get rid of the snaps,
crackles and pops, along with other problems being
    found in their latest versions.

One of the folks at creative forums agreed to look at one
of my problem output files to see if he could determine
the problem, my setup or creative software.....

Not to mention that i have over 3000 music titles that are
effected and many people have much more than me.

    Thats what started all this.
