My old server has a SQL database. I am buying a new server pre-loaded with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard OS. Is it necessary to upgrade my SQL server from 2000 to SQL Server 2008 Standard edition? Would it be better to make the upgrade? Would data migration be seamless? Thank you for any input on this matter.

Odds are SQL2000 won't install on Server 2008...You could always try and see what happens.

And in theory, you should be able to upgrade to SQL 2008 with out issues.
