    Search shows ApcMain, but when I clicked on it I received the same error message.

    Pete, what about just deleting the file to eliminate the error message?
    I'm assuming this file is not necessary.

    Check for Ascentive here ....

    C:\PROGRAM_FILES\ascentive\performance center\

    If it is not present do not delete APCMain.exe - rename it, say APCMainold.exe and see what gives.

    Did you knowingly install Ascentive?

    There is enough evidence on a Google search for 'Uninstall Ascentive Performance Centre' to suggest it is malware related or contains malware.

    I suggest you start a new thread in the Malware & Virus Removal forum - put a link to this thread in your post - and read and act upon the instructions in the red, bolded header to the forum.

    I'm referring to Ascentive.
    It's not listed in the scan you had me do (Installed Programs), nor does it show when I go to Add or Remove Programs. :eek:

    I misunderstood. I was looking for Ascentive (not found), but just looked for performance center and it was there, so I uninstalled it.
    It didn't say I needed a reboot. Should I anyway?

    Is Performance Centre listed in Add/Remove Programs as it is in Installed Programs? Forget about Ascentive being in the title.

    If you Google for Performance Centre 2.27 as noted in the Installed Programs list the hits are for Ascentive Performance Centre ....

    If there is no mention at all in Add/Remove Programs follow my suggestion earlier to rename apcmain.exe to apcmainold.exe and see if that resolves the problem.
