How is your computer doing at this moment?

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
    ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
    • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and click Scan to run express scan. Click OK in pop-up window to allow scan.
    • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
    • Once the short scan has finished, select Complete scan.
    • Click the green arrow [IMG] at the right, and the scan will start.
    • Click Yes to all if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
    • When the scan has finished, in the menu, click File and choose Save report list
    • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
    • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
    • Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
    • Copy and paste that log in the next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.

NOTE. During the scan, pop-up window will open asking for full version purchase. Simply close the window by clicking on X in upper right corner.

    Download HijackThis:
    http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
by clicking on Download HijackThis Installer
    Install, and run it.
    Post HijackTHis log.
Do NOT attempt to fix anything!

NOTE. If you're using Vista, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator

    Internet Explorer Not responding

Hello, I was so into getting ready for work, I did the scan and it found 5 more viruses. I wasn't paying attention to detial and clicked ok to each one instead of yes to all and when it was done it still showed the viruses there and said not a good idea to reboot with them still there so I did reboot so that i could start the scan all over again and hopefully they will appear again so that i can click yes to all!! I am working 8 today and will get back to it when i get home tonight. Did not want you to think I am ignoreing all of the hard work you have been doing.;) Thank you snookie28

I think, it may be a right time now for some "preaching ".
I'm not your censor, but you're using couple of P2P programs, and torrents.
On number of boards, malware people won't even talk to you, unless all those are removed up front.
I have a little bit different approach.
    Your computer is your business.
Just be extremely careful with those.
Whatever you download, every single file has to be scanned before you do anything else.
    The End.

    ================================================================

Go to Control Panel>Programs & Features, and uninstall Ask.com Toolbar (if present, or maybe we did it already - this thread is so long, I'm too lazy to go back and check :))

    ===============================================================

Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

    1. Open HijackThis.

    2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.

    3. Put checkmarks next to the following HijackThis entries:

    - O2 - BHO: Ask.com Toolbar BHO - {D4027C7F-154A-4066-A1AD-4243D8127440} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Ask.com\GenericAskToolbar.dll
    - O3 - Toolbar: Ask.com Toolbar - {D4027C7F-154A-4066-A1AD-4243D8127440} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Ask.com\GenericAskToolbar.dll
    - O4 - Startup: Memeo AutoBackup Launcher.lnk = ?
    - O4 - Global Startup: Bluetooth.lnk = ?3

    4. You should also checkmark following entries (these are unnecessary startups; no actual programs will be removed):

    -O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [StartCCC] "C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\CLIStart.exe" MSRun
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdateLBPShortCut] "C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\LabelPrint\MUITransfer\MUIStartMenu.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\LabelPrint" UpdateWithCreateOnce "Software\CyberLink\LabelPrint\2.5 "
    - O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WMPNSCFG] C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\WMPNSCFG.exe
    - O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [FileHippo.com] "C:\Program Files (x86)\FileHippo.com\UpdateChecker.exe" /background
    - O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [WindowsWelcomeCenter] rundll32.exe oobefldr.dll,ShowWelcomeCenter (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
    - O20 - Winlogon Notify: !SASWinLogon - C:\Program Files (x86)\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASWINLO.dll

    5. Click on Fix checked button.

    6. Restart computer.

    7. Post new HijackThis log.

If you don't do downloads anymore, I suggest, you uninstall these 3 toolbars:
    Mininova Toolbar
    TorrentReactor.Net Toolbar
    isoHunt Toolbar
but it's up to you :)

    Your computer is clean :)

    1. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.

    Internet Explorer stops working

downloaded all urls. Could not remove one toolbar. Firefox runs great but still have the same problem with Internet exp. so I guess I'll stick to Fire Fox. Thank you so much for all of your help and its a good thing that my computer is clean. I do not do anything personal or banking or anything that I would worry about someone "seeing" on my laptop. I do all of that on the tower.
Thanks again....except for the problem IE....it's so much better.

    Very well :)
Regarding IE8, try one more thing.
Go Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, and click on "Reset" button.
    Restart computer.

I'll mark this thread as resolved :)

    Internet Explorer stops working

I don't have IE8...would that be asking for trouble if I downloaded that? I have passed it up so far in my updates. Would that make my computer crash installing it with windows vista? Snookie

If you're using IE7 and for some reason HJT reports IE8, the procedure is very same:
    P. S. Number of people are having problems with IE8. If you don't want to, you don't have to install it.
