I was trying to upgrade a W7 RC machine to W7 Ultimate without reformatting, using the Upgrade option. I kept getting an error message that the Intel Proset Wireless program needed to be uninstalled. I tried that but kept getting the message. It turned out that this is actually a service which runs as a program in memory on startup. When I disabled the service and restarted, I was able to upgrade.

Hi robspan, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Thats great news that were able to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate by disabling the Intel Proset Service. Normally, I would recommend performing a clean install since you won't run into as many problems but in this case it looks like you were able to figure it out just fine on your own.

By the way I would recommend that you please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your system details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

I agree that generally a clean install is better, but I had done that a few months ago when I upgraded to W7 RC from Vista and it didn't need it so soon. Also, I wanted to see how the upgrade would work out. So far, so good.
I started this thread because I googled the error message and found that others had had the same problem but I couldn't find the answer.
