    Christer,

My procedure is almost identical, but I tend to use the same partition in a subfolder of windows (ie windows\cabs). The result being the original setup files are on the existing partition and no need to worry about lost CD's or deleted partitions when installing device drivers etc...

As I said, yours is a slightly different approach but no more wrong nor right than mine. Yes it is harryt's decision. ;)

Edit: After a second read I think I know what you mean...

During the installation with my method, setup will point out that "C:\windows" already exists and suggest an install to "C:\windows.001 ".

If harryt ignores the warning and verifies he wants "C:\windows" as the destintation (i.e. delete that .001) he won't have a problem. Without being bigheaded I've done this hundreds of times and it has never failed me yet and 98 hasn't changed in the last few years has it ;)

    wildfire,
a confused installer can easily confuse the user if he/she isn't fully awake. That's why I name that folder "WIN98" and put it in the root of C: or in a different partition.

Another thing I do is to substitute the ME version of the defragger (one single file) for the 98SE version. It's less of a disaster ... ... don't you agree?

The installer won't be confused, though the instalee maybe. That's why I suggested either your or my advice but not both ;)

I get your point but suggesting my idea is part of ceMEnt is a bit much isn't it :)

Edit: Perhaps I didn't, you have PM.

Color me blind. I guess that's what happens when practicing this Evelyn Wood stuff.

    This thread can be closed.

Before it is closed, I just wanted to place some information here.

I was able to fix the HD issue. Some people, I'm sure will encounter it somewhere.
Basically there is a overlay on the drive and your bios might not pick it up.

Please see Zander's post here: http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-95-98-me-nt/79564-win98-hd-issue-2.html#post434600

I went with the floppy loading after it asks for it, and it worked fine for me afterwards. :)

Hope this helps someone out for future references. :)

PS: Thanks to ALL that helped me with this problem. You guys are true hero's ;)
