    More (overnight) Security Issues.

Thank you, for all you have done to help me out here. I will check the link you provided above for my start up issues and will use WinPatrol.

I had some security issues last night. I decided to do a Windows Defender scan overnight. I rebooted and started the scan. When I got up this morning there were Four AntiVir Virus warnings. They all involved a suspicious code HEUR/MALWARE.
    The four locations were…
    C:\Documents and Settings\TomXXXXXXXX\Local Settings Temp\$27645317.t$m
    C:\Documents and Settings\TomXXXXXXXX\Local Settings Temp\$34C87318.t$m
    C:\Desktop\Spyware Programs\Smitfraud fix\Smi update.exe
    C:\System Volume Information\_restore\(a series of several numbers)\A0012227.exe

When AntiVir warns of a virus threat it must stop all process from running until action is taken for the specified warning. Windows Defender was running after Eight + hours.

AVG Anti spyware was also running. However I did not start it and to my knowledge it is not configured to run automatically.

Windows Defender found no threats while AVG found five. When I moved to quarantine the threats I received the following message “error during cleaning”
I believe the items detected had been detected in earlier scans and were already in quarantine.

I rebooted, on reboot I got a warning that my System was in danger, that windows firewall was turned off. I clicked the balloon and it showed it being off. But then started by itself.

What do you make of all of this?

Would it be O.K. to start another thread in Windows XP about my user issues while this is still ongoing?

    Thanks and Good Luck.

ADDED AS EDIT. Now I am having problems updating Ad Aware SE. I get and error when trying to use auto update and my connection won't let me connect to their site to do a manual update. I will check and see if it is blocked in Windows Firewall. The program was not listed as an exception in Windows Firewall, which is odd because It was before, either that or Windows Firewall was not actually running before. I do not have an icon for Windows Firewall on my desktop tool bar. Never Had. I believe that to be normal. Anyway that problem is solved.

All those findings can be ignored, ail false\positives, meaning they 'look' like they could be bad, but are not.

For Ad-Aware just wait to update, they are experiencing some server problems. I just read about it in one of the private email listings I'm subscribed to. Not Lavasoft, but a another one)

    Update later tonite or tomorrow.

    Thanks

Well, Thanks TeMerc. I plan on getting on that whole start up issue tomorrow. The web site and program you suggested look really good. I learned quite a little through all of this and it is VERY MUCH appreciated. You will probably see me back here again some day with a new virus dilemma but who knows.

    Thanks and Good Luck!
