Sorry about my sudden disappearance. Anyway you are right I can not delete the Legacy files. I tried but I couldn't get permission. And the last one you ask me to delete wasn't there.

See if you can install now. Those Legacy keys aren't hurting anything. If you really want them out, I can post instructions for editing permissions.

What a PITA ..... one more reason I won't use McAfee. LOL

OK, you'll use the same procedure for each of the Legacy keys I listed.

Right click the key and select Permissions.
    Click Advanced near the bottom.
    Click the Owner tab.
In the window, click Administrators once to select it.
Check the box below next to Replace permissions on subcontainers and objects
    Click OK.

Back on the Permissions dialog, Security tab now, click Add.
Type Administrators then click Check Names (make sure to type Administrators and not Administrator)
Yourcomputername\Adminstrators will populate in the window; click OK
Again on the Security tab, click the Administrators entry to select it.
In the lower pane, Allow column, check the box labled Full Control.
Select the Everyone entry then give it Full Control as well.

    Click the Advanced button again.
Place a check in the box labled Replace permission entries on all child.... then click OK.
Leave the Inherit from parent box checked too.
Click OK, then OK on the Permissions dialog to close.

    Try to delete the key.

 I still cannot load AVG. I did everything correctly. In fact the second group of Legacy keys was not even there. I rebooted and double checked and everthing that we needed to remove is gone.

Anyway the was another entry in " HKEY_USERS .default Software and I deleted it. I am going to reboot and check the registry before trying to load it again.

 This is really becoming a PITA. AVG still won't load because another program A/V program is running. I checked everywhere possible and there is no sign of mcafee. Should I try some other A/V?

Well this is interesting. I installed Avast and it is working like nothing is wrong, as far as the McAfee problem vs AVG. So, I guess this will do.

Unless you have any more thoughts, ideas or whatever we can call this "solved ">

    Later. Pepse.

My last thought would be to see if AVG is interested in having a look at this topic to see the hoops we went through to install their software - without success. :D

Good to hear you have an active resident antivirus program again. I'll mark this InActive, since we really didn't solve the AVG issue. ;)
