Intermittently when I go to a site and then click the back button to go back one browsed site, I keep getting the same site. When I right click my mouse on the back button, I can see that my history is filled with many entries of the site I am on. Anyone else having this problem and if you have and have fixed it, let me know how you cured the problem?

If you left click and hold on the back button do you see a number of entries relating to doubleclick for example?

If so these are advertising sites, the adverts from which are on the web page you are viewing

On a few sites I visit it is necessary to click on the back button maybe several times before the previous page appears.

Way round this is to left click & hold on the back button and select the last web site.

    Does this describe your issue?

  3. to hide this advert.

I agree with Pete on this. Few sites will drive you crazy trying to back away from them. That is when I usually right click and find where I want to go back to.

This problem is very intermittent. I am waiting on another episode to test what PeteC answered back with to me. As far as your comment about right clicking and selecting, I have right clicked, but all entries are the same, so I can't select what I want.

Some sites basically have disable the back button to keep you from leaving their site. Not much you can do about it.

Try this site - landscape photography - and look at a few threads - in most cases, but not all, you need to hit the back button a couple of times .....

PeteC......I tried that site and did not have any problem. I believe my intermittent problem may not be caused by ads.
In addition, I also seem to have intermittent problems with opening links. When I click on the link, the link gets a dash type box around it and nothing happens. If I right click and select "OPEN ", it opens fine.
I have tried using FireFox and Chrome and never have a problem with them. I just think IE9 has more options, so I stick with it. I would just like to fix it.

Although the site is based in the States it would seem that they are able to show adverts relevant to the viewer's country - I see UK ads. Example below which requires 2 clicks on the back button to return to the forum list .....

I suggest you start IE with No Add-ons and see if the problem remains ....

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer no add-ons

OK, here is what's happened. I failed again when I selected an item in a google search. When I tried to go back and left clicked mouse over back button, it gave me a dropdown menu that showed where I was, highlighted, and about 8 entries above and below that of all the following; "http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/page ". When I'd click the bottom one it would give me the same thing over and over again.
I decided to run malwarebytes and it told me I had problems; "Adware.GamePlayLabs" & "Trojan.Dropper ". I let malwarebytes quarantine and delete both.
I then ran SpyBotS&D and it showed 3 infections of the usual ad tracking and such, and one that it showed as being malware. It was one of those that does registry scans and tells you you have a bunch of errors in order to get you to buy their product. I got rid of all of those, also.
Now I will wait and see again.

Failed again with the following site loaded into all of the history: "http://view.atdmt.com/CNT/iview/3703564 ".
Some people think that is OK and normal, but I think it *****

I gave up and bit the dust. Did complete reset of Ie9 AND everything now looks OK. I just couldn't figure out why it worked sometimes and not others.
