    Don't worry about copying the Autoruns results. Just take a screenshot of the Logon Tab and post the screenshot in your next reply.

    See here, How do I take a screenshot.

    I'm still having trouble getting this copied, but here's 3 screenshots of the log.

    After seeing the issue with the first entry, I ran System File Checker, and got the message that some files were corrupt, and couldn't be fixed. When attempting to post a copy of that log, I ran into a permissions problem and quit before I really ******* something up. Help.

    In Autoruns remove the following items:

    rdpclip
    HP Media Smart Menu
    HP Software Update Helper
    HP Digital Imaging Monitor

    Then reboot the computer and let me know if IE9 is still crashing. Also did you install the video driver that I linked to and run the Norton Removal Tool that LJ posted?

    I deleted the 4 items you indicated.
    I did update the video driver.
    I did not run the Norton Removal tool, as I never installed any Norton programs. Is that still a necessity?
    I'll reboot, and update you later this afternoon. Thanks.

    Well you mentioned that it came preinstalled on the computer when you bought it. If Norton was installed on the machine at one point then yes you should still run the removal tool.

    I'm not really sure it's been so long, but I'll run it anyway. Thanks.

    I ran the Norton Removal scan, and it looked like it removed some things.
    I'll check back later with an update on how IE is behaving. Thanks again for all of the help.

    Lets try this next procedure.

    Please download zoek.exe and save it to your Desktop.

    • Close all running programs.
    • Then temporarily disable your AntiVirus program. If you are unsure how to do this then Follow this guide.
    • Right Click on Zoek.exe and select Run as Administrator.
    • Zoek may take some time to start, this is normal!
    Copy the text in bold red below:

    createsrpoint;
    emptyfolderscheck;delete
    emptyclsid;
    emptyalltemp;
    ipconfig /flushdns;b
    netsh int ip reset >> %temp%\log.txt;b
    iedefaults;
    autoclean;

    Then paste the text into the Zoek window, as illustrated here, Screenshot.

    Zoek does take some time to complete, even on a new machine so let it run, this is normal. Once Zoek has completed your machine will be rebooted, to complete the removal process.

    Post the results of the zoek-results.txt log in your next reply. You can find it if you click Start< Computer and double click on your C drive.

    I ran the suggested program, and it looked like it was doing something until about an hour into it, then it didn't do progress any more for 3 more hrs.
    I looked for the requested log, and found it, so I figured it was done, but just didn't close. So I rebooted the computer, and here is a copy of the log:

    Following the provided link for a Clean Boot, I read that by checking the Hide Microsoft Services button, I might lose all of my previous restore points. Is that something I really want to do? Thanks.

    Yes it is. The restore points are not any good now anyways.

    I'm back to square one.
    I tried running the scan after the clean boot, and it stopped in the same place at about the same time into the scan.
    I ran msconfig again, and choose the normal boot option. I'm almost ready to give up and live with it. Ideas? Thanks.

    How long did you let Zoek run for? What step was it on? Did you make sure to right click on Zoek.exe and select Run as administrator? Did you disable your security programs while Zoek was running?

    FWIW I experienced similar issues with IE on Windows 8.1 and issues with a particular web site. As I am no longer an MVP in Internet Explorer and there is therefore no residual loyalty to IE I switched to Firefox with which I have had no problems.

    You may care to do the same :)

    I right clicked on it, and ran as administrator. I disabled Microsoft Security Essentials. It stopped someplace like users, public, desktop. The same place I think it stopped yesterday. It ran at that point for about a half an hour when the "busy light" quit actively flashing. I then terminated the scan about another half an hour after that.
    Plus, now I have an icon in my taskbar that shows blocked startup programs. I have no idea what was loading at startup, and what is not now.
    When I went back into msconfig and restarted, should I have chosen the selective button isnstead of starting in normal?
    I'm beginning to think that Pete is correct, and I should just dump IE9 and try a different browser.

    Well if possible I would let the scan run and see if it eventually finishes. If you don't want to troubleshoot this issue further then I understand and in that case I would recommend you switch to using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.
