If you can't ID the drive during the POST (power on self test) then goto device manager and your Hard Drive should be listed in there.

    Hi Dave,

I've just read your last email (once again can I say if you send an email to that address let me know in this thread). If you know how to access your BIOS set your IDE devices for auto detect, hopefully that will give you drive model numbers.

EDIT: for others Device Maneger shows both HD's as Generic IDE Disk TYPE00

Sorry Wildfire but i an a very young Novice with an old brain. I do not know how or where to access the "Bios "! I found only through accident where to change the name of the internet explorer in Regedit! I believe I can follow a step by step guide to it and maybe someone else down the road may use is also! I just finished running scandisk twice on both harddrives (Through...no bad sect.) Dave

No problem, usually during initial startup (ie POST) you'll get a prompt like press F1 for setup. The key could be DEL, F1, F2 etc but if you look you should see it.

EDIT:Have a look around but don't change anything other than IDE AUTO DETECT

Right now I'd suggest you don't mess with regedit, even if you have step by step instructions. One error could totally trash your system.

Perhaps it's time to totally wipe your system, easy way out I know but given your experience it's maybe the best option. Make sure you backup your data and have source disks for all your programs.
