    Hi again toilethead
I'm really only posting to pop you back up to the top again. :)
Have you run another virus scan since you used the fixtool? Did you try the repair feature in add/remove again? Still freeze ups? No error messages..correct?

    Thanks Daizy. :)

I tried doing the Repair in the Add/Remove control panel again, but it's still freezing up.

Is there some way to completely uninstall IE (and save the bookmark file somewhere), then re-install IE from scratch? Or is IE integrated as a part of Windows 2000 and therefore impossible to completely uninstall? I can't think of anything else to try, short of re-formatting my HD from scratch.

If you're talking about just saving your favorites to floppy.....can you not simply export them?

I see someone mentioned earlier using SFC. SFC in windows 2000 works slightly different to win 98 . At the run line you must type "sfc /scannow" .....once running it will ask you for the win 2000 CD and will replace any corrupt or missing files ...try that see if that is any help

I'm running Windows 2000 Service Pack 2, is that SR2? If so, then IE Eradicator says it will not work with that... needs to be SR1.

I just tried "sfc /scannow" with the Windows2000 disc. Didn't seem to help..

    .............. :(

ok... I did download the newer version of "oleaut32.dll ".

Windows didn't let me rename the original file "oleaut32.dll ", saying it was in use (eventhough I had all programs closed). I was going to use sfc to "Extract one file from installation disk ", but sfc automatically closes itself. (Also... the original files is in the "/System32" directory and not the "/System" directory, is that ok?). Is there any other way to replace oleaut32.dll?

So then I tried "sfc /scannow ", this appeared to automatically check things and said it was successful, but didn't solve the problem.

I also went into Run > MSCONFIG. Then clicked on "Expand File ". But every time I click on "Browse File" or "Browse From" to select the .dll, MSCONFIG freezes on me, and I have to right-click to close it, and it says a "msconfig is not responding ", so I had to end task!

    Where is the event viewer?

ok... of course, something so simple does not go smoothly.

When I renamed "oleaut.dll" to "oleaut.dll_old ", it created "oleaut.dll_old" but also recreated "oleaut.dll "!!! So when I then went to rename "oleaut.dll_new" to "oleaut.dll ", it wouldn't let me, citing file already exists. GOD I HATE WINDOWS!!!

Event viewer .....start>>programs>>admin tools........ or just right click "my computer" icon and select manage. There are three logs in there : Application , security and system . The application and the system logs are the ones you need to look at.
