I tried this earlier, and I couldn't run the command prompt as administrator when going to the cmd. prompt from task mamager. I must be missing something, as I still can't get there from task manager. I need more help! Thanks

    1. open the admin command prompt.
1a. copy+paste the command into it.
    RD /S/q "%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files "
    2. use task mgr to close explorer.
    3. focus the command prompt window.
    4. press the enter key.

  3. to hide this advert.

    Thanks for the continuing help.

Because I don't know where to find the admin cmd prompt, I opened cmd., then right click to run as administrator. Pasting the link gave me the same message as before. Files used by another process.

The sequence of steps is important, but I guess I'm not getting all the steps.

Open a command prompt and use this command:
    tasklist>c:\list.txt

Go to C: and open the list.txt file, paste its contents here.

To get an admin prompt, go to Start > Programs > Accessories > right click Command prompt > select run as admin.

I finally got to paste the link in an admin cmd. box, and got a list of the files all with the message that access is denied, or file is used by another process.

I think I've used up enough of your collective time on this.

2pbarsvc.exe 2268 Services 0 3,852 K will be locked to the TIF directory because it's associated with spyware or coupon software.
Uninstall Coupon Alert and if also have My Web Search get rid of that too..

I looked for couponalert, found it, and uninstalled it. I couldn't find mywebsearch though. I checked the tif, and the same 11 files are still there. Thanks

Thanks again for the continuing help.

If your 2nd to last post is #27, then I'm guessing that you mean the files will stay put.

I'm again guessing that this is as good as it's going to get for me. I'm way out of my computer comfort zone, and the last thing I want is a crashed or frozen computer.

So, thanks to all who offered help. I'll mark this as "reslolved ".

Very well then. A few files in that folder won't hurt.

:eek:I'm back again. I've decided that the locked files won, and I don't like it.
What would be the best way to proceed at this point? Should I try the lockhunter as suggessted? I was confused as how to proceed as the thread was ending. Thanks.

What types of files are you trying to delete. I use lock hunter a lot does not seem to hurt anything. give it shot if you do not like it you can uninstall the program.

    As I posted

Have a read here: Cleaning Up After Windows

Use the 2nd method. Has always done the trick for me.

This is where I got stuck the last time around.
What exactly do I do when I get to the command prompt? Or the command prompt in another administrative user account?
I don't have a copy of Windows Vista for Dummies! Thanks

P.S. I missed the above link. Will read. Thanks

    Did you read the article?

And "the 2nd method" is not using the command prompt!

Apologies for being away so long.
I tried Arie's way; read the article "Cleaning Up After Windows" and managed to delete thousands of files, but the offending 11 are still present.
I'm going to try the Lockhunter as suggested.
Thanks to all for the continuing help.
