My husband and I both got HP Pavilion dv5 notebooks at Christmas time and mine is having this problem on an intermittent basis. His has never had this problem, but mine does, even though he does much more risky browsing than I do. At times, when I am actively browsing or sometimes when my laptop is just sitting idle and I am not actively doing anything, my browser will just close unexpectedly. When that happens, I have to re-launch IE8 and re-log in to my favorite sites, even though I normally have my login info saved on those sites. I get the message that my last browser session closed unexpectedly and asking me if I want to restore the last session or start a new session. We are on a 28 bit WEP encrypted router. It just happened a little while ago, and the only sites I had open were my Comcast web mail and Facebook in another tab in the same browser. I have had several live chat support sessions with HP support, and they have not been helpful at all. I'd rather not have to take the thing back to Best Buy, even though it's still under warranty. When I look at my resource monitor, I see a lot of instances of iexplore.exe running, plus svchost.exe as well, with different addresses. One shows my husband's laptop as the address and says peer network. We do not have a network set up and he doesn't know my passwords. I don't even know if that's related to the problem, just thought I'd mention it. Any ideas out there? I know a lot of you probably have more experience with the newest stuff out there, so I'm putting it out there.

Please go to User CP in the upper left corner and put in your system specs. Makes things a lot easier and it will be there for every post that you do.
Usually this problem is caused by a bad add-on. You can delete them one at a time till you find it or the best way is to reset IE completely.

While surfing the Internet using Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 as your web browser, if you experience issues which prevent web sites from displaying properly or at all, or a failure to navigate to the correct site, or intermittent lock ups and restarts in Internet Explorer, you should first try clearing the Internet Explorer offline cache and disabling add-ons in order to find the root cause and resolve the issue. If these measures do not resolve the issue then resetting Internet Explorer to Microsoft defaults will usually resolve the issue.

I already did this last night. Everything is there except my PSU details, which I can't find.
