    Hi,
I have gone into the Folder Options and unticked always show icons never thumbnails.
I have also gone into Control Panel/Advanced System Settings/System properties/Advanced/Performance/Settings/Performance Options/Visual Effects/Custom/Ticked Show Thumbnails instead of Icons....phew Trust I got that right.

However, in spite of that all Thumbnails show up as Icons on C:

Is there something I am not doing correctly as it certainly would seem more appropriate and helpful to have Thumbnails showing.

    Thanking you

Did you try accessing Folder Options through the Control Panel. It can also be accessed though the Menu Bar\Tools\Folder Options.

Are the thumbnails not showing up for all files and folders or only certain files such as videos? Try changing the view to Tiles. Then click Tools< Folder Options< View Tab. Click the button that says Apply to Folders and click on Apply and Ok. Reboot the computer and see if the thumbnail previews show up properly.

In Folder Options< View tab click on the Reset folders button first then click on Apply to Folders. Also in order for the Apply to Folders option to not be disabled you have to click Start< Computer< Double click on your hard drive so that it shows the different folders, then you should be able to click the button that says Apply to Folders in Folder Options.

Did you set the view type to Tiles like I suggested?

Take a look at this screenshot to see what I mean.

Try this, click Start< Right Click Computer and click Properties. In the System window click the Advanced System Settings button< In the System Properties window on the advanced tab under where it says Performance hit the settings button. On the Visual Effects tab select the option that says Adjust for best appearance. Then click on Ok to save the changes. Reboot the computer and see if that helps.

    Hi guys,

This is the result of all efforts..which is close to what I'd like to achieve but not quite.

When I left click on C: and with setting for Medium Icons the Icons show as Thumbnails which is what I am after BUT the main listing of folders show as semi open folders, a setting I am not used to.
On setting of small icons then my folders show as I am used to and familiar with - closed, but the jpg's etc show as icons

I think it depends on how you view the folders in Windows Explorer. If the thumbnails work with certain views but not others then you have your answer.
