The boot disk(s) were never formatted on the USB drive

    Yes, only the one

I didn’t have to install drivers for the USB drive. Actually, the discovery of this floppy problem arose out of a desire to reformat and repartition the HDD prior to me plugging in the USB drive for the very first time. I only tried the USB drive as a last resort so if there were drivers installed they would have had to have been native to the OS (XPP)

Thought so. The machine is under warranty but as it didn’t come with a floppy drive it isn’t covered.

No, I certainly don’t need them. It has really become a pebble in my shoe issue now.

    Matt
On the occasions where I was able to format a disk I have been able to use (and tried) either one.

There really isn’t much use in pushing water uphill. I was hoping that it would be an issue that could be resolved by a mobo setting or update but as it isn’t likely fixable I should best leave it and learn how to create a boot USB flash drive.

Thanks for all of your input
