    HP Pavilion m7300e
    Built in 2005
    Windows XP
    S/N: MXG6210***
    System No.: EK465AV#ABA
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 250 GB

A new hard drive (same brand/specs) was purchased and installed. HP Recovery Discs (3) and PC BID# are the same with the exception of the last digit which is a 1 on the desktop (62NAecMPA1) and * on the discs (62NAecMPA*). When I boot with any disc the following error message appears: These Recovery Discs Do NOT Support this PC Model.

HP and Seagate Technical Support provided no help. The reason for this error message has been exhaustively explored.

It was suggested elsewhere that HP Recovery discs on this model would work only with WD hard drives. So, initially, the Seagate Barracuda 7200.9, 250 GB drive was replaced with a WD 1TB drive. The recovery discs didn't work and the drive failed after six (6) months. Aside from the hard drive, every component is original to the PC and operational.

    Suggestions?

Who replaced the Hard Drive? Should of been HP as it was still under warranty if it failed within 6 months.

I have two HP machines. Whoever told you the disks would only work on a specific manufacturers HDDs is wrong. My HP recovery disk sets which I purchased directly from HP for each of my HP machines will work on any manufactures HDDs.

I did. You didn't answer my question about who replaced the HD if it had failed within 6 months. I would assume (been in trouble for assuming before) that it was under warranty and that HP replaced it.

I agree with lj50. I have replace HD with either the same exact model or else somebody else HD and even went bigger and had no problem.

I had the HD on my wife's HP Pavilion renewed from 5GB to 20GB back in 2000. (Y2K) time. 2 HP discs were used without any problems. (Windows 98/SE)
jeez a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then. Neil.

One of the hardest things I've done in years was to get XP to boot off a 1TB drive... It's been a couple of years... But as I recall, the XP install must have at least SP1 and I had to get some type of sync or initialization type of program from WD...

Let's take the WD hard drive off the table. It was offered merely to provide a comprehensive history.

What's important is restoring the desktop to factory settings. The original hard drive was backed up using factory installed software.

Any pertinent information on how to do just that would be appreciated. ;)

To reiterate, when booting with the recovery discs the following error message appears: These Recovery Discs Do NOT Support this PC Model. The reason for this error message has been exhaustively explored. Aside from the hard drive, every component is original to the PC and operational.

Every one of my HP Recovery Disks have Product number looks like this Disk 1 of 2, 614115-001, Disk 2 of 2 614116-001, Disk 3 Application and Driver Recovery DVD P/N 616776B23. Every time I try to run your model HP Pavilion m7300e, P/N EK465AV or EK465AV#ABA Unable to locate drivers and downloads for your Model, did you try a different country. Your S/N looks incomplete. Most HP models that I've worked on have a S/N similar to this CND97221MO(this is just an example and not a valid S/N).

Hi satnamcat, I hope this is not a silly question, has anything in your HP hardware been changed since build date? ie. RAM, Graphics or CPU. Have you contacted HP about the Discs? Neil.

The serial number was truncated purposely; some forums consider that information too personal and will delete the entire number.

Then forget the recovery discs and install Windows XP from an original Microsoft Windows XP CD/DVD of the same exact version. Once that's done, download and install all available Windows XP updates from Microsoft (except Bing), reboot, check Device Manager and then download any still needed drivers directly from HP.

I would still push the point with HP. They provided the discs with the machine irrespective of warranty.
You're not expected to use the Recovery Discs when the machine is first delivered! Neil.

The original hard drive was backed up using factory installed software.
That software is required to open said backup. This is about using the HP recovery discs to restore the PC as configured by the original equipment manufacture.

If someone knows how to accomplish that, I welcome your reply. ;)

Looking for HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive?

To delve deeper into this, please read and follow the instructions on that page (linked to above the quote). It does into great detail about what you would need to do.

If HP does not have the recovery discs available, there is certainly nothing we can do about it.
