I didn't try this because the notebook is dead, and I don't think putting the broken screen back in would resurrect it. but thanks for trying.

I sent a long and detailed explanation of this to to ScreenAid. Their reply was short and to the point:

It seems this whole ordeal was the unfortunate timing around two different and totally unrelated events.
The lady's going to pay me, then send it to HP and hope warranty will repair it. I don't know if she intends to inform them of the screen replacement or not.

I want to thank everyone for their input.

Ok. I humored you and reinstalled the old screen. Nothing. This motherboard is dead, and it has nothing to do with this screen, or the other one. This one died within a few months like several others I've read about. Something flakey in the design.

Please leave the old screen installed. Does this sound like a plan?

I guess I'm slow in my old age. Now I get your drift. I wish the original screen wasn't obviously busted. If she's returning it because the board doesn't work, and it has a busted screen, she won't get a replacement. I think her best bet is tell them it quit working, and neglect to mention the screen replacement. It was a good idea though. Thanks. ;)

They're mainly going to be looking at the main board anyway. So you can advise her to do it your way. Do know if she took the HP Care Pack with Accidental Drop Protection when she bought the computer? How did the screen get cracked?

I'm really doubting that. She would have used it the kid broke the screen.

She said she was. I advised it without mention of the screen replacement.

I don't think she will have a problem, but, I'll keep my finger crossed.
