Can you post an ugly screenshot of the UI? :D (that is, if I understood your statement correctly)

TonyT, I have triple boot system (XP, Win7 and Windows 8 (now Windows 8.1) ... Will your instructions above work if I try the download through Windows 7?? If not can I still do it through Windows 8.1??

I'd really like a ISO in the event it's needed at some point...

This what I found after downloading and installing the Windows 8.1 iso. It is a Windows 8.1 ISO. But it requires a different key than your legit Windows 8 one to install. After which you can then enter the Windows 8 key you got with your Windows 8 purchase.

You can get a generic product key for Windows 8.1 from following official Microsoft page:Enter this generic key in Windows 8.1 installation wizard and it'll accept the product key without any problem.

Once Windows is installed in your computer, you can now activate it using your own genuine Windows 8 product key by going to System Properties and clicking on the change product key option.

So, although your genuine product key won't work during installation, it will work for activation.

Updated to 8.1 through store 4 days back.

Everything is okay till now except that there is a folder "Windows.old" in C: drive. It contains 18077 folders, 72029 files & weighs in at about 2.78 GB. What is this & can it be safely removed ?

Yes, it can be safely removed if everything is working fine after the upgrade. It contains back-up files (from previous 'old' Windows installation) etc., and can be removed via 'Disk Cleanup', Make sure you check the 'Clean up system files' checkbox.

Windows.old directory contains files from the previous Windows installation. Don't delete it just yet if you selected "keep nothing" during the 8.1 install.

You should check it first and see if there's anything you need or want, then delete it when finished with it.

Retrieve files from the Windows.old folder
