I'll try not to lecture you in the mattman method of running Vista any further :D

If the (reduced) stuttering is still the only problem, did you check many of the other suggestions at that video website? I still have a feeling that you may be missing an updated driver somewhere. As I said, I relate it to caching data. You may want to check for a firmware update for your DVD drive. Try borrowing another drive to test??

Check FAQs at the graphics adapter manufacturer's website.

I have stuttering on one of my (Win XP) systems. I haven't gotten round to finding out the reason yet though (the system is not connected to the internet and does have/need any programs running in the background, it runs as my media centre). The stuttering does not bother me much, so it is low priority. :)

Never mind Matt. Not bothering at all. I am as stubborn as can be, so...

I have clean-installed everything again, and the "stuff running in the background" behaviour has decreased to a minimum. Checked the "High-Performance" option in the Energy options, manually changing some of the things there, of course :) , minimum, I should say. I think it's OK now. Must've been something I had installed. I'm still making tests.

As for the video stuttering, have not tested it so far. I use the K-Lite Codec Pack, and it's updated to the last version. Matter of fact I watch videos from files (.avi, .divx most of the time) using VLC Media Player, which I think is the best available because of the support to subtitles: effective and stable. Things are running smoothly around here, afer a couple of intall cycles.

I'll be reporting soon. Hasta la vista!
