Situation Friend ( wife! ) computer went slow yesterday and was asked for help. Performed a Task Manager shutdown and some chinese anti-virus 360 couldn't close then finally did an end task on that program and restarted. The result was I.E and Windows network services stopped working.

So far I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Windows network drivers, reinstalling the Winsock as suggested in the microsoft website but the IP driver error code 2 wont go away. The wireless network is 'conected' Authentication is switched off as with my laptop.

Not sure how to install the MS tools to perform further tests on winsock or if I would understand what the answers mean. The tools are hidden on in the original Windows XP home edition operating system is in a hidden partition on the Samsung NC10 harddrive.

I am at a loss as to how, if at all possible, to get all the Network layers 'Winsock' correctly reinstalled and get ping loopback working. Looking very much like a complete reinstall.

A complete reinstall may cure the problem but I would first go to the Malware & Virus forum and follow instruction to make sure the computer is clean. Malware is often a cause of a slow down.

I would also, for peace of mind, run hard drive diagnostics software that you can get from the manufacturers site for your Samsung hard drive.

Suprised that Panda Active Scan does not detect it.

Also it would serve no useful purpose for 360 to disable internet access as that would prevent their ability to sell and grab data. If you run an anti-virus program and bad things start happening you would very quickly find nobody using it too.

However will do as you request.
