    Hehe, 1024 mb = 1 GB, not 1000 = 1 GB ;). Common misconception :D

hehe i was looking at that 8 MB and it didn't make sense 32 is more like it. (if it really was 8 the PC would have been ancient, and then it wouldnt be able to handle 1GB RAM), the worste part is i do know that its 1024  not 1000.

    8GB DDR2 800 in this machine with 512MB DDR3 in its video card. (Quad boots Ubuntu 8.10 64bit, Ubuntu 8.10 32bit, Windows 7 64bit Windows XP Home 32bit)

4GB in my moms new HP laptop. (Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit) (Memory type unknown but I suspect its in the DDR2 range)

1GB PC 3200 in my old pc. (Runs Ubuntu 8.10 32bit)

512MB PC 133 in my sisters pc with Windows XP Home.

256MB PC 2700 in my moms Dell Demision 2400 with Windows XP Home. Will be upgraded to 1GB once the new stick arrives.

248MB for my old Compaq Presario running Ubuntu 8.04 Server Edition. This baby handles all over night downloading processes. (Memory type unknown)

Some machines can handle more RAM than others, will quite often depend on the motherboard in the computer.

Hope that answers your question >_<

I remember having an 8Mb ATI card with a 12Mb Voodoo 3 and thinking 20M graphics memory, this rocks :D

It was on a 64Mb PII 400Mhz though, but even the guy in the store when I bought the parts said I wouldn't need central heating because "that beast will keep your whole house warm" ;)

Anyway, I've already voted but systems vary between 256Mb (antique win98) to 3Gb.

    Edit: P4 , corrected

Hummm! I have 1GB on both of my computers. And it's my understanding that 1024MB = 1GB so I don't know which box to choose. I suspect the lower range should have been 513MB -1023MB.

I ended up choosing 1-1.5GB since my motherboard could handle 1.5GB.

When I bought this computer I was looking at the next step up which had 8gigs of RAM. I really had no use for it because I don't do alot of graphic intensive gaming. I have 4gigs DDR2 with quad core processor. Plenty fast.

4GB installed, but my T60p can only access 3GB of them. It's a mobo issue, but rarely do I need more than 2GB. ;)

Probably not. It's a 32-bit thing, then the rest goes to system overhead, including graphics.

I was puzzled as to which one to choose. Isn't 1024 MB the same as 1 GB? So if I have 1024 MB, do I check 512-1024 MB, or 1-1.5 GB? None of the other categories seem to overlap. (Hmmm...I just noticed that the system specs I filled in a while back tell me that I have 1016 MB, which seems a bit strange, but at least that tells me which category to choose. But still, aren't those two categories overlapping?)
