Dude, the DVD drive works fine from the other drive.
I don't know what to think now.
Like why did I waste all that time setting up the other drive? This (orig) XP drive has some minor issues, but it works. Think I'll just clone the working drive for my backup, unless you have any parting suggestions
At the end of the day the old adage is true...
    Computers are time sucking mothers.

I think dumping the new install and using the clone makes sense. I'd be tempted to sit down with a 6-pack of Coors and try to forget the whole episode. If that didn't work, I'd get another sixer. ;)

    Best regards, Dude

    Perfecto Dude, perfecto! :D:D:D

iTunes no longer works on the clone because I re-lettered the partitions. What should I do? Tried uninstalling iTunes, thinking a new install would find the music, but it won't uninstall. Tried add/remove and Revo.

Look to see where the iTunes program files are located. When you find out what drive they are on, change the target of whatever shortcut you are trying to start the program with so that it points to that drive.

If that doesn't work, try reinstalling right over the present install.

iTunes wouldn't install either. Just gave message that drive was invalid.

I can't be of much help here since I don't have iTunes. I was just making a generic suggestion about changing the target, assuming you were clicking on some icon or shortcut to start the program. If that be true, right click that icon and choose properties. That will give you the screen that shows the target where it is supposed to find the program files. That would allow you to change that target drive letter to agree with the drive letter where the program is now located.

Can you change the drive letters back to their originals? You are allowed to change any drive letter you choose except the system drive by using the Disk Management applet in XP.

One reason why I've mentioned to you before chas, One problem at a time. Over the 3 or 4 threads you've created you've been given sound advice but it is very difficult to keep track of what you're doing and when.

This particular issue may have been resolved a lot easier if you concentrated on a single problem without bringing FF ad blockers, Sound drivers, Changing drive letters, etc into the mix.

From what I can see you're back to square one

You're probably right paddy. So many things came up along route though. I have a difficult time concentrating on just one thing. ADHD. :(

That's for sure. Not sure what to do now. At least I got the music back.

Paddy, if 3 or 4 issues arose, why not go w/ 3/4 threads to address all the issues?

Nothing wrong with 3 or 4 threads for 3 or 4 different issues, but not at the same time...

Resolve your cloning of the drive first (if done properly your sound card driver shouldn't have been a issue), then sort out what drive letters you wanted to assign to which drive (this may or may not have caused your Itune problem but relatively easily resolved) then worry about your adblocker for FF.

The key is make sure one problem is resolved before creating another ;)

Paddy, now that I'm back to zero it appears I don't dare mess w/ my current setup (no new install of XP, etc). Any thoughts on how I can streamline my drive, so it uses less memory like the other drive I set up, but now am unable to use? (I have 3GB's RAM and saw better numbers on the new set up than I do on this one. Yes, that a generic question, but I don't have details to offer.

To generic to answer Chas, other than suggesting google is your friend, but please remember one issue at a time ok, contrary to popular belief we are not omnipotent here ;)
