Right surferdude, I'm using Opera...you know, the only browser that adheres to standards. :) I guess the Creative site is a shill to Internet Explorer.

I'll head on out of this thread, and let you two sort out this all out.

    The plot thickens.

Ran the check (at Creative) and it said I was up to date. But still no sound.
Note: the clone was not hooked up during the check.

This is what I got from Creative...

Also, when I'm hooked up to the clone (w/ old XP and drivers) sound works fine. Go figure!

Does Device Manager show any problems with the sound devices? Is it possible that you need to select to use the card rather than any integrated sound that your mobo has? I'm just thinking the new install may not have the mobo drivers installed yet and that may be at the heart of your problem.

Device Mgr doesn't show any sound card or any sound issues. There is onboard sound though. Can you walk me through deselecting onboard sound?

Try selecting your product from here. As I understand it, all "Audigy" use the same driver 2.18.0011. I managed to download it, not the fastest server but it eventually finished.

Did that one Christer, and when I attempted the install it said the card wasn't present. Since it works on my other drive that info was incorrect.

I wouldn't have a clue how to disable the integrated sound on your system but it's apparently already disabled so you don't need to worry about that. ;)

I would suggest that since your sound card isn't listed in the Device Mgr that you use the software that came with it to install it. Normally that will be on a CD. Sometimes things get detected wrong when installing the OS and you may find some strange item listed in Device Mgr as "Other Devices" so look for that too. If any are found, delete them and reboot. Just in case, reboot anyway. ;)

Don't have the CD. Bought the card used and it didn't come w/ one.
Under Other Devices in Device Mgr I have yellow ! and ? for Multimedia Audio Controller. Tried to update, but nothing was found on the computer and as I said I have no disc.
    Have done several reboots.

Delete those yellows (if several are listed, start at the bottom) and then click the toolbar selection "Check For Hardware Changes" and see if the card gets placed differently this time.

Deleted them, but where do I find Check For Hardware Changes?
Restarted Device Mgr, and other then the yellow's I didn't see any changes.

Found it. After it tried to install and couldn't find anything (software) it replaced the yellows again.
    Card still doesn't show.

It'll require a manually directed install and you'll need to direct it to the location of the drivers for that card. If you don't have the CD and you are not able to download the drivers from the mfgrs site, it'll take some pure magic to get you going.

Are you able to download the drivers? If so then go back to Device Mgr and dump the yellows again. Then before asking it to check for hardware changes, run the installer that comes with the downloaded drivers package.

    Tried that - no go.
When I run the driver installer it say, "Supported product not found on Computer ". This is nuts.

Considering just going back to the clone drive and forgetting the new XP install.
It wasn't THAT problematic, and I had sound.

How can I verify my DVD drive has died?
It's no longer working, or showing up in My Computer.

If the DVD drive didn't work on either system and you can see that it's getting power, as indicated by the drive light flashing, then try reseating the data cable. If that doesn't work, replace the data cable. If still no joy, you can be pretty sure that the drive has failed internally.

No lights/indication of power. Had already tried the cables, so I guess she's kaput.

Drag it didn't end differently. I'm going back to the other drive.
I'll check the DVD drive from that HD.
