Chnaging drives and want to copy partitions to new drive.
    XP Pro (SP2)

Also want to transfer a sound blaster driver, but not sure if it's more than one file.
When I check the driver in device mgr it lists about 25c files, ost of which are .dll

    Hi Chas,

Most (non OEM) drives come with a utility to do what you want and even if it is OEM you can often download the software from manufacturers website. eg My WD drive came with Acronis True Image WD edition.

As far as transferring your sound blaster driver, if it's not on the partitions you're transferring it'll be best to download and reinstall.

Thx Paddy. I've tried downloading the driver from Creative and other sources and ea time it's not a match, even though I'm reading the name and numbers directly off the card. Any thoughts?

Posting the actual sound card you have would help ;)

If you're using the onboard sound from your system specifications then Gigabyte is the way to go, if not as much information of your sound card would be appreciated. Creative labs produced a lot of different sound blaster cards.

Not thinking Paddy - as usual.
    Creative Labs Audigy
The rear of the card says "SB0090 "

When I download the driver it says the card is not installed.
When I switch to the clone HD (old XP and program files) the card/driver is fine.
    I'm stumped.

    Ok,

It's been a while since I used Creative Labs cards and I've got to admit surprise that XP doesn't recognise your card out of the box but have you tried Creative Labs forums...

This post looks interesting, scroll down for the download link but please read all of the post.

Now Paddy, what makes you think I'd scroll down to the link and forget the read?
    Better not answer that! :D

It supports XP Pro (SP3) and I'm on SP2 w/ no desire to go SP3.
Do you think it will work?

I think I already did in your other thread :p, pretty sure I've said to you in the past one problem at a time as well (though at least these are relatively unrelated) :)

What's this bit about? Is it safe?

IMPORTANT: Before installing this version, start Windows in Safe Mode and delete the following files:

    - 32-bit: C:\Windows\System32\UDAAPO32.DLL

    - 64-bit: C:\Windows\System32\UDAAPO64.DLL and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\UDAAPO32.DLL

    If you're concerned, rename it...

Any problems restart in safe mode and rename it back.

To be entirely safe though you do have backups don't you?

As always I try, but sometimes the written word isn't as good as the spoken ;)

I haven't backed up the new drive (new XP). The data is still backed up.
Yeah, the written stuff has me troubles too.

Not without causing a big headache...

But if you're copying the entire partition the driver will follow.

That's the issue Paddy. The driver is on C: and I just did a new C: for XP.

    Your post is somewhat ambiguous,

Are you saying it's a new install for XP, or did you copy the old partition over?

If it's a new install did you follow the post in the creative labs forum? If so what was the outcome?

Curiosity this time, why the concern to switching to SP3, any issues with it were resolved ages ago?

Since your other thread has been closed, I'm replying here regarding your issues with DiscWizard. You can ask DiscWizard-specific questions at their forum:
    DiscWizard and MaxBlast Forums -
    http://forums.seagate.com/t5/DiscWizard-and-MaxBlast/bd-p/Discwizard

I don't understand what you are doing. If you are copying your old drive to your new drive, you use the cloning feature in DiscWizard, which should also allow for resizing the partitions if you are transferring to a larger drive. Your sound driver would already be available for use on the new drive once the cloning is done, since cloning is duplicating exactly what is on the old drive, sector by sector. DiscWizard is just a reduced-feature version of Acronis True Image.

If you don't have your sound driver on the new drive after using DiscWizard to clone, then you haven't done a clone of the drive, you have chosen some other option. Please describe what procedure you have chosen in DiscWizard.

Here is the manual for DiscWizard (it should already be included in your installation and available in the DiscWizard start screen):
    http://www.seagate.com/support/discwizard/dw_ug.en.pdf

Read the whole thing, but Chapter 10 especially... "Transferring a system to a new disc "

I redid the C: partition w/ a new install of XP.
Haven't tried the suggestion in Creative - yet. Still trying to solve it in a hopefully more simple way.

As for SP3 - I've read so much negative about it. In another recent thread Arie was saying there are still unresolved issues w/ it.
