Yes, it compresses the images by a default amount. You can choose more or less if need be but I always run it in default mode.

I just check my archives and the entire month of Feb. backup images amount to 9.1 gigs. That's one base image and 27 days of incrementals. I choose to do daily incrementals. Your mileage will vary depending on the amount of data and activity on your system.

FYI, WD Disk Wizard will not make incrementals, you will have to have the full version. If you can't make incrementals, you will be faced with making a new base every time and it will require quite a bit more disk space. For example, my base image for Feb. is 4.57 gigs. The remaining 27 days of incrementals equal 4.5 gigs. The incremantals save me from making a 4.57 base every day. If I did that it would take more than 127 Gigs for the same coverage!

Makes sense, though space is not an issue since I've got 750GB's to work w/, though I expect the incrementals are much quicker. Since the image is compressed I expect that it must be uncompressed through the same program that made it? In the event of a failure what's the process for restoring? I was thinking of just hooking up the backup drive and going from there, but again I have zero experience w/ this, so I'm just thinking out loud.

Using the Acronis software, you are able to make a boot floppy or CD that will allow you to select and deploy any stored images. That's applicable when the system won't boot. The boot media will contain the full features of Acronis True Image.

If you only need to retrieve some particular item and don't want to revert the entire drive, you can open any stored image file, while booted to Windows, and pick and choose what files you need and copy them out.

I'd have to do this to really understand how it works. I get the concept though.
As always I REALLY appreciate the help Dude. :)
