I am running the 32bit version of windows 7 ultimate. I would really like to install the 64 bit but cannot get it to boot from the cd... I know it will be a clean install, but I can't get it to boot.

Could my issue be I am trying to install the 64bit version of Windows 7 Professional over Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit?

    Thanks for the help.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Have you checked the boot order in the BIOS?

Give some details of the DVD from which you are trying to boot .....

Is it a full Retail DVD or an Upgrade DVD?

    Is it an OEM CD?

Is it a copy that you have downloaded legally from the MS Store or Technet? - in which case it will be an image file - .iso, which must be burnt to DVD using the 'burn image' command in your burning software and not simply burnt directly to DVD.

Have you tried booting from it on another computer?

Please fill in your system details as requested above - 32 bit OS tells us nothing about the system on which you are trying to install x64.

The copy of windows I am running now was burnt using Nero from tech net. However I do not need the multi-language and bit locker so I went and purchased the retail version of Windows 7 Professional.

    OK - understood :)

Have you tried booting from the new DVD on another computer or booting from your Win 7 Ult DVD on this computer?

    Update .....
NO - I have 7 Pro x64 on my Desktop and 7 Pro x32 on my laptop. I have justed booted the laptop successfully from my x64 DVD.

Your problem appears to lie with your DVD drive or the DVD itself.

As I suggested - check that another bootable CD is recognised on your x32 computer.
