Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)

Currently my hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys are at sizes 2.9GB and 3.9GB respectively

Can I reduce this use of hard drive space? If so, how?

    Thanks, in advance. :)

I would suggest turning off Hibernation completely - it can lead to issues on 'awakening'.

The Page File is best left to be managed by Windows, but can be changed ......

Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings (in LH column) > Performance - Settings > Advanced tab > Virtual Memory > Change

If you have more than one drive/partition ensure that a page file is set only for the C:\ drive.

For manually sizing the old adage of 1.5x installed RAM still holds good, although, as I mentioned above, a System managed page file is preferred.

If you are concerned about a few gig of hard drive space it sounds like it is time for a larger hard drive :)

Sorry for the late response but I agree with Pete to leave the pagefile alone. The size you report is 3.9 GB (managed by Windows, I guess) and the old "rule of thumb setting" would increase it to 6 GB.

Hibernation is a different matter. I myself have disabled it, following this guide

Windows 7: Hibernate - Enable or Disable

which will remove hiberfil.sys and the option to hibernate.
