[Inactive] Help with Malware?

Hi There,

I am hoping to get some assistance with removal of a ????, I am sorry, but I dont know exactly what is is called, but I can explain what happened.
A pop up window appeared and said it was scanning my computer for virus etc....it was not my antivirus program, all of a sudden, lots of windows started popping up, and telling me various things like, I have no memory, hard disk is unstable/corrupt...etc, etc, then my desktop turned black, and most of the icons dissapeared. I panicked and shut the computer down, and when i started it back up, all of my programs has dissapeared in the start menu, and many of the folders were empty of icons.

I had followed some advice from friends about using software called malwarebytes and spybot which I did, and it found some infected files and cleaned them. I then did a system restore, and it looked ok......but a few days later, the same things started to happen again :-( when I tried a system restore again, it now does not work.

I am using my computer in safe mode just now, any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
