I recently purchased 2 new computors
    P4 2.2 GHz
    448 MB of RAM
    Windows XP Pro sp3
    with IE 7.0

The Ethernet cable plugs into a box attached to the mother board, (poor description, but use to a card that plugs into a slot, lol, I can use a computor far better than I can build one). I don;t know if that matters, just adding that for problem with 2nd computor.

Both computors work great until internet is needed.

    1st computor,
with the eternet cord surfing the net is perfect, no problems as well as everything else does great for my use.
My wireless, linksys wmp11 version 2.7, I can not get to work. a new driver was dn/lded from Linksys & installed. Still no luck. (This wireless card was in my previous computor & worked great from the 1st day I installed it.)
It does show up next to my clock, says connected, connection excellent, status limited or no connectivity. When I open that & try repair, it cannot.
The pic shows the path, sent 62, 0 received. In the path it has like a yellow caution sign with an ! mark in it. I tried removing the card & installing it again.
I went to device manager and it shows Other device with a yellow ? mark in it. So I tried to install the driver again and says it can not find driver. Yet I go to my Linksys wireless config folder and it is there.
I brought it back to the place of purchase & they said it worked for them it must be on my end. I returned home, called my ISP & all was fine there, I use my laptop wireless so I have no doubt it works as well as with ethernet it works great too. I am about 10 feet from my router so I know distance is not the issue.
The fact that it has a yellow ? mark in the device manager, I believe it is the card or driver for what ever the reason.

2nd putor, specs the same as 1st
This computor is not wireless. It has a Ethernet cord plugged into that box again, lol. I need to learn that name, --=sigh.. I did also buy a new cord and try that as well.
I can get online & open up to 2 pages, home page, then click a link to another page, then click a link & it never opens, even if I refresh the page.
I can get to my email but email will not open.

I returned this one back to the shop as well. When I got there to pick it up I was told they added a new ethrnet card, (the type that goes in a slot) just to be on the safe side.. This made me scratch my head, but as long as worked, that is all I want. I returned home and have the same problem as described above, get to my mail but cannot open it.
Called the shop back & only got it worked here it must be a connectivity problem or browser setting.
Well all I did was connect 5 cables, power, mouse, keyboard, monitor, ethernet, simple enough, powered up went to check my mail and could not.

If one computor works great with ethernet yet one does not, even with a new card, I'm not sure it is me or my service provider. I have a laptop, wireless, another computor as well that works great, & my old computor brought in worked great before. So why the problems with these 2 new ones?
Note, my wireless laptop is IE 6.0, other 2 old putors were & is IE 6.0. 2 new computors are IE 7.0
I don;t know if the IE7.0 could be part of my problem or the problem as a whole.
I hope someone here can offer something...
If even just read this, thank you for your time.

One additional note to previous post.
The computor I can get online without problem using the ethernet cable, (1st new computor), Everything from my old hard drive was copied to the new hard drive. So I don;t know if may be why I am not having problems with the ethernet connection on this one.

2nd new computor is totally new

I believe this should have been posted in a different forum, but no problem, a moderator will move it for you.

You should only post one problem per thread (i.e. computer 1 in one thread and computer 2 in another thread); this prevents confusion.

When installing the driver for computer 1, are you letting XP look for it or selecting "have disk ". Don't let XP look for the driver. Select "have disk" and navigate to where the driver is and select it.

Computer 2, make sure your ethernet cable is plugged in to the addon card. Check device manager to ensure only one ethernet card installed there. Check BIOS to ensure on-board ethernet is disabled.

I moved it here (was posted in hardware), to me it looks like a network problem.

    Thank you for your response,
I wasn;t sure if I should post in a hardware, internet or software section because of the problem & computor shop saying it is a hardware problem & or IE 7.0 problem
With both computors being purchased at the same time & both only having problems connecting to the internet adds to "my" confusion.
Both have a new motherboards, hard drives, ect being new, only difference being one had all info from my old hard drive transfered to new hard drive & this one connects great with ethernet cable.

The wmp11 ver 2.4, (not 2.7) wireless I uninstalled in the add/remove program, then installed again with the software cd. It shows as I said aove, connection excellent, WEP Enabled, DHCP enabled WMP11 is active, shows IP, shows submask, shows my SSID, Channel, Infrastructure, transfer rate 11mbps, then it goes to limited or no connectivity as soon as I try to open IE, then status says DHCP disabled, WEP Disabled.

The 2nd one did have the motherboard connection disabled, (by the one who built the computors) prior to adding the ethernet card. This is the only one showing & cable is pluged into.

All the computors I have purchased from this guy over the years, (at least 8or 9 not counting these 2) as well as upgrades, repairs, ect, he has never given me reason to doubt him. I have great respect for him.
His doubt about the motherboard connection, needing a new ethernet card, then just saying it is IE 7.0 or sp3 having issues and is not his problem. It may be both are new & he just hasn;t time to learn each issue if the case, I don;t know.
It's like buying a new car and problems soon as you start it to drive off & the dealer tells you it is a problem GM has with the controller module. Does this become your problem? But regardless of that, if I can find a way to resolve the issue that is all I want.

Reading other post here while I was searching for support info & finding this forum, I was impressed with how well others helped out until a problem was resolved. As well as the amount of knowledge offered..
But I am sorry for posting in the wrong forum & if not noticed and moved, could you suggest the proper forum?
Thank you again for your response

Burby, Its been a very long time since I have done anything with networking and I am only a novice where it comes to wireless.

What I can suggest, is on the working computer access the routers web page and see if it is logging the nonworking computer when it tries to connect.

Also check the advanced properties in the local area connection and see it there is a check next to "allow other users to connect using....(don't know the exact wording). If it is checked, uncheck it and try that.

I am sure an expert in this area will hop in here and give you more specific advice. Just be patient.

    computor #2 fixed

Thanks for what you did offer Mitch, any info is always appreciated.
Putor # 2 issue is resolved & I can;t believe how easy it was, probably is why I had not corrected the problem & had to seek help.. lol
I know basics but that is all about putors. Trouble shooting, now that always will interest me, and if something is suppose to work & don;t, I will read & read until I figure it out, just because.. We all have the ability to do anything, we just have to apply it. Most times it is to apply with caution, lol, but none the less unless we try we will never know. Some things are best left to professionals because nothing beats experience.

Anyhow, with the computor shop knowing there was a connectivity problem & them installing a new ethernet card I (that infamous word) assumed they would have updated or made sure the driver was updated before saying it was all done.
I for what ever reason this morning got up, turned on the putor and checked the driver, then updated it, rebooted and all is fine, it runs as fast on IE as any of my other computors. Old version was 2001, new version was 2008.

What do I do now to prevent people wasting time on this putor problem that is now fixed?
I do thank you & all for having this forum for all. I have added this site to my tool bar in hopes to being a regular member here in hopes of offering some assistance when possible.
