Hard Drive Testing

I am wondering if there is an external device that will allow me to "plug" into it IDE, EIDE, and SATA drives to retrieve data on them. It is quite time consuming to keep extra computers and add the hard drives. Does anyone know of a product that will allow me to swap out the drives with more ease?

 

Now ain't that just the neatest thing! Now I have to decide whether to buy one of these to get my files off my old computer to the new one I'm going to buy soon, or an Easy Transfer Cable or Flash Drive. Decisions, decisions.....

The way I read your question, it sounds like there may be something wrong with the system you need to retrieve the data from (say virus or partition damage) and you don't want to go through the process of taking the drive out of the original computer and put it into another computer or external case to copy off the data.

Assuming the above, you could investigate using Ultimate Boot CD for Windows. I am not certain if it can have USB support, but UBCD4W has networking support, so you could copy the data by network. UBCD4W has a CD burner program (I expect it could burn DVDs, but I have not used those yet).

Yes UBCD4Win has support for USB.

And with the latest versions the inclusion of Driver Packs will boot amost anything.
