BIOS is usually F1 or Del, but yours may be different - look for Hit xx to enter Setup at the POST screen immediately after powering up.

I have been out all day and out again tonight so have had no chance to look at your Everest report.

Saw what matt highlighted - would be more than concerned with those temps. They should be less than half the values stated for any degree of comfort.

Check the CPU fan - speed should be more like 4230 than 423.

Thank you, gentlemen. A couple things...My BIOS menus do not have any options for temps or voltages. I went through every submenu. Maybe this one is older and doesn't have that feature? I would need a little guidance on how to check the CPU fan speed, also to clean the dust out. Still, about every third boot is a frozen disaster.

Hello people. Sorry as h... to cut in like this, but I just saw what a readout Everest gave on this machine of winoceros and was wondering if anyone knew of one as good for an HP Pavilion a345w machine?

I have uninstalled SP3. I had one bad reboot after that, and one good one. The good one went through a checkdisk and had to reallocate a bunch of stuff, but it looked fine after that. I'm going to reboot several times and see how bad it still is.

Since all temps appear quite high check the air vents for flow going into the case (they should be at the front), even quite large vent holes will block up over time. You may be able to "get to them" without even opening the case.

Open the case (I am not sure how by your description, it sounds like one of the old Apple Macs). There may be instructions in the manual (sorry I don't have time to look it up at the Dell website). If you can run safely with the case open, you can try directing a desk fan into the interior (for testing purposes). I take the case outside, loosen the dust with a soft brush or maybe a "poking" object in tight places like under the CPU fan (straightened paperclip?). Check the vents from the inside. Blow the dust out (don't use a vacuum in case it might build up an electrostatic discharge and zap the electronics). For blowing you might try a hairdryer or you can buy cans of compressed air (electronics store or office suppliers).

If you miss a little, don't worry, more will come to join it :)

Don't unclip or unscrew parts, you should not need to.

If your BIOS does not have readouts, I wonder what Everest is reading? Why have sensors with no system readout? Check through the manual about the BIOS, maybe you missed something.

hrlow2, Everest is probably the best (that I know of). If you want your system specs, I think you could find them by identifying your model at the HP support website.
    www.hp.com/support
Hardware/driver or even temperature & voltage readouts may not be reliable unless they are provided by the system manufacturer's "software ".

    Matt,
I will work with my Mom to clean out the drive according to your directions. I will check the Gateway manual for the BIOS info...I AM hoping I missed something!

I checked with Gateway, and amazingly there is no mechanism for reporting the sensed temps and speeds on this Profile 4.
Thank you again for the cleaning instructions. I think, as the system seems to behaving at this time, I can bid you adieu. We may be back if we have any questions after trying to clean this antique.

I am grateful again to you both for your assistance.

If Everest is not working for you try SIW - System Information for Windows The latest version shows sensor temps.

You''re welcome - we'll keep our fingers crossed for you :)
