Verify your Java version here: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
Update, if necessary.
Uninstall all previous Java versions, through Add\Remove (Programs & Features in Vista).

===============================================================

Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

1. Open HijackThis.

2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.

3. Put checkmarks next to the following HijackThis entries:

O2 - BHO: Java(tm) Plug-In 2 SSV Helper - {DBC80044-A445-435b-BC74-9C25C1C588A9} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jp2ssv.dll
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{9B638304-CF75-4D9E-88E0-E351FAF05BFA}: NameServer = 192.231.203.132,192.231.203.3
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{9B638304-CF75-4D9E-88E0-E351FAF05BFA}: NameServer = 192.231.203.132,192.231.203.3
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\..\{9B638304-CF75-4D9E-88E0-E351FAF05BFA}: NameServer = 192.231.203.132,192.231.203.3

4. You should also checkmark following entries (these are unnecessary startups; no actual programs will be removed):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\Windows\system32\igfxtray.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Persistence] C:\Windows\system32\igfxpers.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe "
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe

5. Click on Fix checked button.

6. Restart computer.

7. Post new HijackThis log.

Oops...I completely missed your comment about updating Java...please excuse my sleep deprived fuddled brain. I have just uninstalled the old version and installed V6.19 and tested it.
Do I need another HJT log after making the changes to Java?

I was just coming back to thank you and to post an update to say that things seem sooooo very much better. We have noticed now that when we do a google search it brings up a list of suggested search strings whilst we are typing, it wasn't doing that whilst we were being redirected.
No redirections at present (fingers are crossed!)
BUT when I did get back here (after installing WOT) I got that same popup message (see screenshot http://www.uploadmb.com/dw.php?id=1270004857)
I am fairly sure I shouldn't be 'allowing' that to run as it doesn't look legit to me. But why do I get it when I visit this thread (website?).

First issue is easy to solve. Open Google search window and click on "Settings ".
Under "Query Suggestions ", tick "Do not provide.... "

That pop-up is not right.

Print these instructions out.

NOTE. If any of the programs listed below refuse to run, try renaming executive file to something else; for instance, rename hijackthis.exe to scanner.exe

***VERY IMPORTANT! Make sure, you update Malwarebytes before running the scans.***

STEP 1. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php to your desktop.
(Malwarebytes is free to use as a manual scanner. Payment is only required if you wish to have it run and update automatically which is not necessary for our purposes)

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

RESTART COMPUTER!

STEP 2.
Post fresh HijackThis log.
NOTE. If you're using Vista, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator
Do NOT attempt to "fix" anything!

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

ARGHHHHH....it seems that something just went awry. I just got redirected and good old google went back to the way it was before (we like having the suggested searches drop down).
I haven't done anything except the things you suggested (just not in the right order - with JAVA).
I can't download malware bytes again.
I just tried using windows update and it is also failing again.
I just tried updating windows security essentials and it is also failing again.
It feels like the same issue as before the DNS settings were changed.
I just went in to see if the manual DNS settings were still there and nope they seem to have gone and I am back to auto DNS again.
I will look back through the threads and find out how I got malwarebytes antimalware again

Hmmmmm.....

Let's start over....

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
2. Close any open browsers.
3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
• Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results ".
• Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
• Close any open browsers.
• WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
• Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
• If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
4. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
5. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
6. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

To be able to download malwarebyte anit-malware I had to go in and change the DNS server to the Internode ones as listed on internode.on.net (my internet provider)

Which BTW then allowed all of the updates that were previously blocked to run again. And google now is back to 'normal'.

As of the latest restart of the computer....everything seems to be working ok. No popups, no redirects and the DNS information that I manually entered seems to be sticking.
I am off overseas for the next 2 weeks and will not have net access.
I would have loved to get this changed to a resolved state but perhaps we could put a [onhold] status at present and when I get back the brains trust (that's you Broni!!) could try and figure out what is going on with the DNS on auto.
Thanks again for your patience and efforts thus far. I am fully confident you will be able to figure out what on earth is taking control of my system and how it is managing to worm itself back in.
QK (holiday mode activated)
