Go to Start and then type cmd in the Start Search box. Right click on the cmd then click Run as administrator.
You may have to type in your Administrator password here, if not, continue on.
At the command prompt type in sfc /scannow and press Enter.
    Have your Vista CD ready.

Once it has completed, see if the problems you are having continue.

Crunchie, thank you for all your help. The BSOD's have gotten to the point where I can no longer get any access to windows, even in safe mode. I guess it is time for a clean install.

How long have the BSOD's been happening for?

Go to system properties (right click MyComputer > properties) > Advanced tab > under startup and recovery click settings > under System failure make sure "Write an event to the system log" is checked AND that "Automatically restart" is UNchecked. Then under *write debugging info* select (none) > Click "OK" and reboot.

If you crash again, write down the entire STOP message.
You can post it here for help and we will try and determine the cause.

You can also download Bluescreen View from http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html and it will give a log to post.
