    [Resolved] Google Jump Redirect Virus

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me out. A virus seems to be redirecting any links obtained through search sites like Google to miscellaneous unrelated advertising sites. When it is redirected, "jump" appears in the browser title name. It seems like quite a few people have been afflicted with this. I have tried running numerous antispyware (avg, adaware, cc cleaner, etc etc) but nothing seems to help. I ran them both in normal and safe mode. In addition, it wont even let me download certain antivirus programs (malwarebytes, spybot). I tried "fixing" questionable "redirect' scripts in my hijack this log. Could someone pls assist me get rid of this? Here is the current log:

From what I understand, Microsoft has just sent out an update the plugs a hole in IE that allows hackers to plant code (not detected as a virus) to re-direct your browser to sites that do contain virus's, updete your windows to eliminate. Have not learned how to get rid of it once you have it! but I have same and will post as I find out.

Hello, thanks for your response. Just wanted to give you an update. Shortly after the original post, my computer got even worse. I was no longer able to type anything out (whenever I type a letter it gives me a number sign or number instead..originally most letters worked, then some, and now all appear to be quirky), so I had to wait until I was back at work to respond. It was also giving me issues starting up. My boyfriend has been working on it some more, but the typing thing remains an issue. I will try and post the updated logs requested tonight. Thanks again for all your time and help!

    Hi cynthia071,

I'd like to run another tool to see if anything visible remains. Please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
    • Disable any script blocking protection
    • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
    • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
      1. DDS.txt
      2. Attach.txt
    • Save both reports to your desktop.

Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

    DDS.txt

I may ask for the Attach.txt log later, so keep it handy.

Then, lets do an online scan. Do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
    • Click Run at the Security prompt.
    • The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
    • Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
    • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
    • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
    • Click View scan report at the bottom.
    • Click the Save Report As... button.
    • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply.
    **Note**

To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
    • Close any open programs.
    • Turn off the real-time scanner of all antivirus or antispyware programs while performing the online scan.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

Post the Kaspersky log here as well.

    Delete the following file.

    c:\windows\system32\TDSSosvd.dat

The dds scan shows a couple of toolbar leftovers that were not in previous logs. Please do a new scan with HijackThis and save the log, then post it here. Maybe we can see them there.

Is ThreatFire still installed, and functioning?

I think ThreatFire may have been related to PC Tools. My bf must have downloaded 15 antispyware/virus programs trying to get rid of this thing, and they all seemed to take out different trojans in bits/pieces. He uninstalled most of them after he was done with them, leaving a few. I don't see ThreatFire or PC Tools as an uninstall option in Add/Remove programs. So, I went to the folder manually and found that it had a file called C:\Program Files\ThreatFire\RecentHits2.dat. Sounded like a potential threat, so deleted that with Killbox. I wonder if there are any other files hiding out there?

Hmm so I reran Hijack this and the dat file appears to be gone but its still saying that the .exe extension is missing. I didnt see it in the folder, so deleted it manually before rerunning. Any thoughts? Is this something I should be worried about?

There are remnant services left behind. The following should deal with them.
Highlight and copy the following bolded text.

    sc delete TfFsMon
    sc delete TfSysMon
    sc delete ThreatFire
    sc delete TfNetMon
    sc delete SBRE
    exit
    cls

Click Start>Run and type cmd then hit Enter to open a command window.
Right click in the window and select Paste.
The command Window will close on it's own.

Do another scan with DDS and post the log.txt file here.

Lets get rid of those leftover toolbar entries. Highlight and copy the contents of the code box below.
    Code:
    reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar" /v {C4069E3A-68F1-403E-B40E-20066696354B} /f
    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser" /v {C4069E3A-68F1-403E-B40E-20066696354B} /f
    reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar" /v {2318C2B1-4965-11D4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} /f
    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser" /v {2318C2B1-4965-11D4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} /f
    exit
    cls

Click Start>Run and type cmd then hit enter to open a command window. Right click in the command window and select paste. The command window will close on it's own.

Possibly the biggest problem I see is multiple antivirus apps running.

AV: AVG Anti-Virus Free *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated)
AV: Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated)
AV: avast! antivirus 4.8.1296 [VPS 090103-0] *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated)

I recommend you decide which one you want to keep and uninstall the other two. They can conflict with each other and cause all sorts of problems.

Now, please do an online scan.

    Post the Kaspersky log here.
