I'm old (very old). I have three computers, all Dell, all XP Home. Computer #1, a still-fast 2002 desktop has major issues. Computer #2, a circa 2004 10-lb laptop, also still fast, had major issues (viruses and malware) which now are mostly resolved. Computer #3 is a 2009 Dell laptop with run-of-the-mill speed... and no problems (Its my wife's). I joined WindowsBBS to glean ideas on how to save Computer #1 from a reformat. I'm networked through a low-cost Netgear router which works fine. Security is Avast Pro for Computers #1 and #3, Avast Free for Computer 2 which has been called into service since the problems with #1. Cheers, ggs
