Would be nice if that file could be scanned, if it is in fact the System Restore files, I'd sure like to know if the auto file creation just happened to back up a Trojan.

I just did some playing around with the System Volume Information folder on my XP-pro workstation running NTFS.

I got an access denied error when I tried to open the folder. I checked security and the only user account listed was SYSTEM and it had no rights at all.

I added my login account to the folder with full access and could see the contents. Still not sure exactly what it is since System Restore is not active on this PC.

I decided to play it safe and removed myself from the folder so it's back to no one having any access. But I suspect if I'd run the scan while I had permissions it would have scanned it OK.

Note - the way that folder is protected by default from even an admin level user, I'd suggest maybe we don't want rights to it and certainly don't want to modify anything inside of it.

Yeah, I guess anything that is that protected is better off not being messed with. So many times though, we have been warned to shut off system restore, get rid of infections, then turn it back on, just seems easier if it could be scanned.
