    Hi Evan,

I've deleted the programs. Will I be able to reinstall Cyberlink Power to Go? It's my program for burning DVDs.

Here is the Security Check log:

Thanks for letting me know about the Cyberlink software. The reason why I wanted you to uninstall that program is because most computers that are OEM's come with that software installed and I've uninstalled it every time I've come across it since it wasn't used.

If you do use it then feel free to install the latest version from here.

The Windows Security Center service is disabled so I want to get that running again.

Click Start< in the Start search box type services and hit enter. The Services window will open. Scroll down and locate the Security Center Service. Right click on the service and click properties. Change the startup type to Automatic (Delayed Start) and click ok to save the changes. Then start the service.

Your hard drive is also very fragmented. Click Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< Disk Defragmenter and run the program. The defrag process could take a while so just let the program run. Once the program has finished, please re-run Security Check and post a new log in your next reply.

How is the computer running now by the way? Did you remove those items in Hijackthis?

    Hi Evan,

I’ve started security services as you suggested and yes, I have removed all those items you asked me to removed from HighjackThis.

The computer is running very well, with only one possible wrinkle, though I’m not sure.
I backed up C Drive with Acronis.

C Drive has 55.00 GB of used space, but when I backed it up with Acronis, the backup seemed to go very well but, when it was finished, the total number of backed up files are
23,740,985 KB. Does that sound right to you?

About defragging, I started to defrag this evening and my Diskeeper 12 tells me not to defrag C Drive if it’s a Solid State hard drive, which it is, What should I do?

I won’t defrag until I hear from you.

    Thanks a lot,

    bellisimo

If you are running an SSD then you don't need to defragment your hard drive at all.

The Acronis data that was backed up was only 22 GB's. Are you sure that Acronis backed up the entire drive?

I guess it can't be, Evan. I'll try another backup with Acronis tomorrow and see what happens.

Should I go ahead and rerun the Security scan again and post the results to you in the morning. It will have to be tomorrow since it almost 2 am here in Toronto

Thanks so much, EVan, for all the time and effort you put into this problem.

    See you tomorrow.

Is it possible that Acronis compacted his image to that size?

It sounds impossible to shrink an image to 40% of its original size, but I thought I would ask.

    Hi James,

Thank you. That's a good question. I hadn't thought of that and I have no idea if compressed files is the reason.

Would you prefer to completely disable User Account Control (UAC) or leave part of it enabled?

I have never used Acronis so I can't comment on that. But I don't see how you can compact 55 GB's into 22 GB's.

    Hi Evan,

I think I'd prefer to leave part of (UAC) enabled.

How did my security check log look to you?

About the back up problem, I'm going to call Acronis support. The program might be corrupted.

    Thanks again,

    bellisimo

    Hi Evan,

I spoke with support at Acronis today and was told that my backed up C Drive files are compressed and that 55 Gigabytes have been compressed down to 23,736,844 KB, so that mystery is finally solved.

My computer is running perfectly, it seems. The only question I still have is whether my new security scan log is okay.

    Thank you,

    bellisimo
