I don't see that file, there is a SVCHOST in the C:\WINDOWS\I386 folder, but there isn't anything else. I mean, the svchost.exe is in the system32 folder, but there aren't any others.

Ok, it appears as tho all files which I could identify are killed off, is the same error still occurring? Let me know.

Lets fix a few minor items with HJT.

Open Hijackthis, select the [Do a system scan only] button and look over the following entries I have listed, check the boxes [] next to them and press the [Fix Checked] button. When you are doing this, make sure you have No IE windows, nor any other browsers open, including this one. Reboot if I have specified below, and post a fresh HijackThis log.

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: khfgggd - khfgggd.dll (file missing)

Reboot post a new HJT log back into this thread please.

I'm curious about those. I looked them up and downloaded the Windows patch that supposedly installs them, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Otherwise, the problem is the same as always.

Oh, also the anti-virus keeps deleting a trojan called Backdoor.Graybird that runs under the filename svchost, but those being deleted seems to have had no effect.

What is the file path given for those? Likely they are in the System Volume Information folder, which is system restore and no threat.
If you're inquiring as to the (file missing) portion of those lines, it is a bug within HijackThis! The files are there and the software is functional should you require to use it.

I'll need to dig around some more for some other solutions to the continued error messages.

Thank you for all your help. I have unfortunately had to leave the computer in the hands of my parents and whatever computer specialist they find, as I have returned home and am now using my own computer that is working fine. Thanks for the help, I'm sorry that we couldn't fix it. It's not my problem now though, so , you know, this is it until the next time things go wrong. Thanks again.

Sorry we couldn't resolve the issue in a more timely manner.

I hope you provided your folks with some links and basic instructions for secure surfing. Sometimes we have to be the ones to educate and inform, returning the favor for all they have done for us.. :p
