Here is the OTL log. Just to say - when i pressed the fix button, it came up with process complete quite quickly but then just stopped. I had to reboot the computer manually via the task manager button. Hope that's normal - still got the log at the other end.

    All processes killed

Ok, have downloaded all the other stuff now too.

The only thing that is a bit odd is the fact that starting up takes way longer than normal, and then loading the first internet page takes a while too. Once it's up and running it seems fine, just starting up programmes can be slow. The other thing is this sound issue. The sound is jumping as it plays, and as I said before, sounds a bit like vinyl being played at the wrong speed.

Also, a few questions - I have avast as antivirus which slows everything down a lot. Can you recommend a better free antivirus download?
Can I get rid of McAfee, seeming as I have other stuff on here?
Finally - what is 'defrag' and how/where do I run it from?

Thanks so much for all your help - am very grateful!

You can safely uninstall McAfee Security Scan. Most likely, it installed itself as drive-by-install, while installing something else, probably Java.

I use Avast myself and it's not causing me any issues.

Your computer would run much better, if you added another 512MB of RAM.

    Defrag - Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmenter

Regarding sound...sound where? In a browser, streaming, or playing some music CDs?

    Thanks.

The sound is odd everywhere - from the start-up windows tune to streaming (e.g. youtube), as well as playing off itunes. It doesn't seem to read it very well - once played all the way through it gets better, it just doesn't play well first time off.

I suggest, you reinstall audio driver.
    If it doesn't help...

In this forum, we make sure, your computer is free of malware and your computer is clean :)
Because the access to malware forum is very limited, your best option is to create new topic about your current issue, at Windows section.
    You'll get more attention.
