I am recently getting a "Generic Host Process has encountered a problem and needs to close" message everytime I restart from standby. I have to reboot my computer and then everything works just fine unilt I close the lid (go into standby) and restart again later.

As it says, it hosts a program or service. You will need to trace what program or service has stopped working. If it doesn't have more details in error message itself, try looking in Event Viewer for problems listed at the time.

Standby depends on saving the system to memory (RAM). If you have too many programs open or not a lot of RAM and force it to go into standby, that might be why it can't recover when it wakes up.

I don't set my laptop to go into standby when I close the lid. I might try Start -> Shut Down -> Standby, but even though I have 3GB of RAM and close any open program, it can still say "Not enough resources to go into Standby" :D. My laptop has function keys (Fn + F4) that sends it into standby and that seems to work perfectly (I still ensure that there are not too many programs open). See if there is a "machine" method of standby like function keys. Standby needs to use the power functions of the BIOS, the Windows standby might not use them correctly.

If you think it is Windows method of putting it into standby, you could try updating the chipset drivers from the laptop manufacturer's website. I just stick to the machine method (the function keys).
